My excellent weekend score.

As some of you may or may not know I do some charity races where I give away Hot Wheels, usually about 20-50 at a time. I usually pick up cases off ebay of 90's mainlines for 50-70 cents each with shipping.

So in an effort to find cheap cars I put an ad on Craigslist saying I wanted to buy Hot Wheels for up to 50cents each explaining why I wanted them and that I was not a reseller or collector per se. No less than an hour later I got an enthusiastic email from a gentleman who said I was exactly what I was looking for! I made arrangements to go by his house after the races I hosted on Sunday. I pull up to the house, here is a man in his mid 60's with a garage packed full of stuff.
We have our introductions and he asks me to explain exaclty what I do and how it got started and where I was going with it.
After my probably way too long explanation he said, I'll make you a deal. 5 cars for $1, take as many or as few as you want and points to 3 huge plastic bins FULL of cars from the 90's, almost all first edition cars. I was so stoked! We had some great talks as I dug through the cars, sometimes he would have 20 of the same casting from 1991, others would just be one or two.
In the end I picked up 250 cars for $50. I'll probably be back to buy the rest from him soon enough though. He even gave me some gift sets to give away. He was so happy, I was so happy and we're going to make a lot of kids happy.

I did warn him that I would be keeping a dozen or two and he just laughed and expected as much!

I'm hoping I can get him out to an event one of these days, but he has had a stroke and has some mobility issues.

Anyway, just thought I would share. Now I just have to figure out where to store all of these cars!

Here are two photos of some of the cars...first one all of the Ferrari's...I made sure to get them all! I'm keeping a few I don't have. Lots of 7 spoke wheels I've not seen much of before...and different wheel variations from the same dates.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Here is the rest of the bunch I'll be keeping probably...sweet Lambo Countach in the mix there and I love the Hyperliner, one I hadn't seen before and is just begging to be a downhill demon.

Shit dude, I'll buy some of them off you if you're running out of space!

I need to look into Craigslist. It kind of scares me so I've never bothered.

...plus my wife would probably shoot me if I brought home 250 more Hot Wheels...on top of the 100 or so I still have unopened ready for league play.

Never been on craigslist? holy moly. I've been using it since the mid/late 90's out in San Francisco and then here in Austin to buy and sell bicycles and parts, cars and parts, hot wheels, tools, electronics, furniture, etc. I've made alot of good money flipping things on craigslist...it's awesome. I just scored 4 almost new all terrain tires for my truck for $80 and selling my old ones for $25...$55 for tires! crazy. Yes, it can be dangerous.

Best score ever...huge mechanics toolbox full of tools for $300. I sold the extra boxes and tools I didn't need or want and made $500 off of those. right place, right time with money in hand.

I love Craigslist, it's an awesome place, lol.

Very nice haul. You'll be happy with the Chuy's FC, Hyperliner and the Midnight Otto. Those are all pertty good cars.

don't let it's repulsive looks fool you, the sweet 16 II's rear axle falls out when blown apart...it may be the best 5 spoke axle h.w. have ever released... i narrow them and use them as fronts on my race cars...
if you end up with or have the chance to buy way 2 fast, i'll buy all you don't want... raw materials on wheels... thanks smitty

Plan on opening that Sweet 16 this weekend to check it out. No Way2Fasts in this batch but I'll keep my eyes out for ya.
