Painting a Plastic Car Body

JDC442 Saturday, 6/9/2012

Getting ready for the next Featherweight series and finding a few fast cars that have plastic bodies. I'd like to paint my entries, but not sure about painting the plastic. Has anyone ever attempted to paint a plastic body? Any suggestions?

painted the interiors... wash well in soapy warm water... mold release on most plastic parts...

Probably would help if you lightly sanded the plastic parts to make them rough so the paint sticks better? The few times I've tried to paint plastic parts the paint didn't stick that well unless you just spray painted it in one big blast.

I just painted a plastic body about an hour ago. It didn't look so good so I sanded it with some very very fine sand paper and getting ready for a second coat. I washed it first with soap and water. It could have at least used some primer first, Which is essentially what the first coat will end up being. Maybe could have saved some time by sanding it in the first place, but I'm pretty sure you'll need some very fine sand paper for that.
