Piston Junction's southwestern race course has been chosen by the Wasteland Motorsports Diecast Racing League as the 2024 Venue! Get ready to roar through the south west and compete with other deathracer hopefuls for fame, cash and fuel!

The WMD is a fever dream, born in the middle of the apocalypse, of Earth's occupation by the corporations of Mars, of deathraces. Think of it like the WWE had a one night stand with NASCAR - and the WMD is its lovechild.

Style, Flash and Brutality rule the day as people race for whatever shreds of comfort they can find.

Now, the WMD is hosting an all-call for wannabes, hopefuls, wanderers and warriors. No matter your experience, no matter your resources, everyone gets an equal shot on the Furious Road.

ALL WASTELANDERS ARE INVITED TO TRY OUT FOR WMD-TV'S PRIME TIME SHOW.

Rules & restrictions

  • Modified entries only.
  • Decoration can be as simple as sandpapering the car, slapping paint on it or or as detailed as you like. If time allows, I am willing to throw some bits on your car if requested.
  • All ‘real’ vehicles accepted. Fantasy Cars should look reasonable in a post-apocalyptic Death Race. No Sharks, Toilets or Brick Cars, for example. Weapons and armor encouraged.
  • 60g maximum weight. I Highly recommend 45 grams or more to get down the track.
  • 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • Limit 1 entry per household, but may send two cars.
  • Retail axles and wheels only. FTE/NPA axles allowed.
  • Dry lube only
  • All entries will be run on-camera for a time trial, with the amount of cars going into the main event being decided based on the number of entries. Provisionally planning for 32 to 64 race-spots, but will increase this as much as needed for demand.
  • While not required, it is highly encouraged to submit a car and driver profile.
  • Miniatures or props for the car and driver are also welcome, but not required.

Dates & deadlines

All entries must be received by the host before Friday, 2/23/2024. Racing is scheduled for Friday, 3/1/2024. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.

How to enter

Contact the tournament host to get the shipping address for entry.

Include at least $10.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. Entries not getting returned will be retained by the track owner for use on this and future events. I do prefer not to mail back cars, but add them to the growing story of Piston Junction.

Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry

Track

Piston Junction Open Track, 42 feet of Crash Racers Track, Slanman Customs curves in a Gaslands/Mad-Max/Post-Apocalyptic setting.

Race format and scoring

Each race set will be a set of four heats, each of four cars. Points will be scored based on placing in those heats. DNF’s will always score at least one point.

1st: 5 Points
2nd: 3 Points
3rd: 2 Points
4th and DNF: 1 Point.

Advancement: The top car in each race set is not guaranteed advancement to the next round. Second and third round advancement will be by cumulative point total, with the highest scoring cars over all, moving onward.

In most cases, the highest scoring car will move on, but it leaves the possibility that a high scoring second place may edge out a low scoring first place, or if a car is damaged beyond racable condition, the next placed car can advance.

Bracket seeding will be random.

Penalties/DNF

Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Non-compliant vehicles will still race, but they will be scored as if finishing in fourth place.

Cars that fail to fit on the track, or that break during racing will be scored as DNF. If possible, the car will be repaired and run again later in the season as space allows. Cars that arrive broken will be minimally repaired before the racing begins.

Prizes

Rust Belt Customs has asked to co-sponsor the event, and as such, all winners will receive a prize pack put together by the best Graphics man in the diecast industry!

Additionally, CreepyHero Studios has sent over a prize package of wastelands themed accessories and parts for your builds.

1st Place: Backlit Acrylic LED Trophy as seen on Gravity Throttle Racing or Junkyard Joust, customized to the winners desire and a $25 dollar credit to the Starcorps Industries Etsy Store.

2nd through 10th: Commemorative KeyChain and $10 dollar credit to the Star Corps Industries Etsy Store.

Someone commented and I slipped my thumb and hit report.  I did not mean to do that.

I am not jody, but he's working on some track buildings for me!

I've been posting updates in the track journals area, but I'll take a new video later today.

The backwalls are off right now as I build the upper level terrain features. The track is dialed in, and my fastest car runs it in about 7-8 real seconds.

  • The ratio of Hot Wheels cars to cars with your logo on them has to be approaching 1:1 by now. — Beeks
