I set up the race as a double elimination, first time running one and I really like it.
Gives every car at least two chances at proving itself, plus it creates more racing, just a bit more work keeping track of everything. Players were assigned letters as I received them, and I got 10 cars to race. Printed the bracket off the internet and went to racing!

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Here is the bracket. Not once did I have to do a third race, each car got one pass down each lane and the victor was clear each time. My oldest son Cooper (10) was manning the start gate and he did an excellent job. There were definitely close races, but the 300 FTE just edged everyone out. If my track was shorter the outcome might have been different.

Great job Forrest on the win! I had a feeling the 300 would pull through, it’s my fastest stock car with FTE’s…nothing can touch it yet. And yes I raced mine against his…his was fresh out of the package never been run! Mine lost by a hair. Congrats to JDC442 with runner up position with the Custom Camaro! If you notice the 300 beat the camaro in the first race…then the camaro whipped everything and came back to race the 300 again for the final…crazy.

Only got 2 modifieds, which I was sad to see. Forrest sent in some crazy stealth tape job and Redline Derby’s modified Mustang with FTE wheels. Sadly the tape dragged on the track. I removed a bit of it but it was no match for the Mustang.

Now off to the bonus race! Since I only had 5 entries, I picked 2 cars for each player to make it more fun and more racing. I selected some odd ball older cars for fun. Here is the list…

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Flashfire 2001 Series

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Jeepster Future Fleet 2000 Series

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Arachnorod 2000 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Turbo Flame 1996 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Escort Rally 1998 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Chrysler Thunderbolt 1998 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Crazy 8’s 2001 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Lexus SC400 Seein’ 3D series 2000

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Deora II 2000 First Editions

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Hammered Coupe 2000 First Editions

I had my boys select the cars randomly from a bag and assigned them same as the mail in cars… so Flashfire was A1 to Army Will, etc….

Then we set up another double elimination bracket for those cars and raced!
Wouldn’t you know it…Forrest with the win AGAIN! This time with the Chrysler Thunderbolt. The Jeepster came in second and it was a pretty close race.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Ok so now the prizes! Forrest is the big winner, he’s 13 years old and he’s JDC442’s girlfriend’s oldest son. Anyway I thought this roll up portable race track was awesome! Congrats Forrest, now you have a race track and a bunch of new cars to race as well!

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

JDC442 with the runner up position gets an awesome M2 1957 Chevy, these things are crazy detailed. Congrats!

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

For his win, Brian gets the complete Key Car Keychain collection! The four cars have the four different key chains on the bottom of the cars...I thought they were cool...hope you do to!

As thanks to everyone who sent in cars you each get a new 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia FTE! I think this is one of the nicest and slickest cars Hot Wheels (and Ferrari) has produced, and it looks killer in metallic silver.

Thanks again to everyone, I had a lot fun and I’m sorry there isn’t any video…my wife took off with the camera today to document her rowing races! Everyone’s cars/ prizes will be in the mail this week on their return journey home.

Great job on the recap. I really wanted the Maverick Outlaws to make a splash but as with all Mavericks they just seem to have a will of their own. They'll race only when they darn good and ready to. LOL Truthfully, my ambitions got the best of me and I was unable to finish it with the work and family schedule that came up. Hopefully I can get it done and have it ready for the next mail in race.

Thanks for the entertainment and I cant wait to see some of the video action.

First off, thanks Jobe for managing and organizing this whole event. Despite the Redline name being on the event along with Austin's, this was all you and I was privileged to piggyback on your setup. I can't thank you enough.

Secondly, one hell of a highlights recap! All the photos are great. I have to admit that I'm bummed my Testarossa didn't perform better, even against the FTE but I guess that's the way it goes. Congrats to Forrest and Jim for their wins...they certainly know what they're doing when it comes to racing. I should that JDC is a previous Fantasy League champion as well. Well done.

And the prizes are all awesome, Jobe, gotta say. I didn't even know HW had a roll-up track on the shelves...I'm gonna have to check that out. Might be worth the finish line if nothing else. And hey, roll-up means no joints! And I need to keep an eye out for that 1998 rally car, it's freakin awesome!

Great, great stuff here. Sounds like the whole thing was a great success, except maybe for the low mod entry but that is a whole other level of racing that not everyone has time for. I think we'll probably do another mail-in race this summer. If it doesn't end up back in Texas, I'll host it here in Ohio.

Thanks again to Bryan for all his effort in handling the racing, the shipping and prize gathering. And thanks to everyone that sent in their cars and joined in the fun, even it from afar. Congrats to everyone!

Thanks again for holding the races Bryan. Forrest will be tickled to find out he won both the stock and bonus races. That black car wrapped in tape was his attempt at modding a car. He took a 'Race Aces' Camaro apart, added some weight, painted the car with black fingernail polish, then used the tape to put it back together. Had no idea he would be going up against the famous 'official Redline Derby' FTE Mustang
Yes, love the work on the recap. You know how to make it all so exciting Mr. Jobe
Can't wait to see those prizes come in the mail. Thanks Austin Diecast Racing! Happy days!

Happy to do it, was fun and both of my boys were involved and excited about helping. I just found the roll up track last week, it's a Toys R Us exclusive I think...not sure how it works, I almost bought two just to find out! I think I have another one of those Rally cars if you want it, it did fairly well. I was really blown away by the bonus turnout, not at all what I was expecting to win but that Thunderbolt was not to be messed with and the Jeepster surprised me.

Sorry about the no video, I was a little bummed about that, but less work for me in the end anyway!

Jim, glad Forrest won, hope he likes the goodies...hope you all do.

Next time...bigger turnout and more mods please...I'm tired of trying to outdo myself over here!

Man, I'm so bummed that my cars didn't do better. I can't believe that the cadillac lost. It was fun to see it run against other fast cars though. It has no competition over here with my family. Guess it's time to look for a 300 FTE, LOL.

By the way, I forgot to say thank you to Jobe. I'd like to do this again. I'll have to copy the way you have your track set up and see which of my cars does the best. Any how, thanks again and thank you for the 458 Italia FTE. That is my rookie pick for this season's fantasy league and I wanted to go find it in the stores to see how well it would do. You saved me a trip to wal-mart, lol. Give me a couple of months or so and I'll see if I kind find a faster car to send.

Bandeezee...I was looking at that Caddy and thinking it would do better. I have a yellow one and it's quick and stable.
But the 300 FTE just has everything I think makes a good racer going for it. Wide track so it doesn't wiggled between sides of the track, big wheels, and pretty rigid axles. I think with a little added weight it would be a real screamer.

Enjoy the Ferrari, I really like this model, I have one in red, yellow and my own custom FTE verson and now the official FTE version...it might be my rookie pick as well!

BTW, JDC442, what was the year and make/model of that custom camaro? I tried searching for a custom camaro, but I couldn't find any camaro with an open hood like that.

Believe it or not we found this one at a Chuck E Cheese a couple years ago with the prizes you get for turning in tickets. It's actually a 'Heavy Chevy' from the Since '68 series that Hot Wheels has had out for a few years now. I actually haven't seen this series in any regular stores yet. Only Chucks and on the internet.

I think this series has some of the coolest cars around. Check out this link to the series on South Texas Diecast.
