Race Hosts - The Weight
Every track is going to have its optimal weight ranges from a minimum to a max. A lot of races run up in the 60g - 75g range. I think its great that in Custom Carnage 6 Rick is listing a 55g max. From my perspective that will allow a much wider range of possible castings to be considered. Which should (could) result in more variety and more fun to both race and watch. Such races would also be a little easier for new racers to jump into.
So it would be cool to see some races in the 45g - 55g ranges. Or would it? How do race hosts consider / determine desired race weights. It's summer time would be fun to see a convertible only race - or classic sports cars - or pre '50's hot rod jalopies.

I love Rick's 55g limit! And I would love to see some races in the 45-55 range you suggest. So much easier to keep an interior mostly intact. So much easier to balance a car or experiment with different biases. Also easier to get away with using coins, fishing weights, used wheel weights, etc rather than having to purchase something more pricey. Brilliant idea!

I'd bet a 35-45 g car wins it because at max weight it would be so nose heavy
a 300g car on Goat Hill may be more a problem then a bonus
Host's should consider what goes down their track best, weight, width, and length
and "margin over" accordingly, and see how the races go

I am always running different kinds of cars and trucks down my track anywhere from 25 g to 100 g to see how they do. And of course, the results vary, but more often than not on my track, it seems like the sweet spot is 45 to about 57 g Whether it's stock or modified. Everybody's track runs different, drag track versus a circuit track like mine or an open track like over at the Comet Tail Raceway I'm sure, will all have varying results. I recently held a modified mail and race where the weight limit was 35 g and you could send in whatever casting you chose. And the car that won, which was from Bavarian diecast racing was putting down times faster than 60g modified cars that have been on the track. On a track like mine, decent wheels and axels are gonna benefit you more than weight, and a well balanced car with smooth, running wheels and axles will dominate at just about any weight range, stock or mod.

Whether arrived at by plan or accident Rick has done a great thing by consistently setting the limit to something this accessible across builds and skills. You can tell in his show how new faces to the scene make him extra happy! For the more experienced racers there I feel they dig deeper into the more subtle things, so the challenge remains even with a modest weight ceiling.
- In my brief time here it seems that a lot of races center around 60 - 65g which is not unreasonable but there are a lot of cool castings that cannot accommodate that. Then 75g is the next most common and that extra 10g’s ain’t easy to pack in, and beyond 75g lies madness. I just posted this as a reminder to consider lower max weights is some races. — AbbyNormal
Because all my tracks have been hand made, I've generally tried to keep the weight under 50g to reduce the wear and tear on the track. The recent Gravity Chaos tournament was up to 58g, but that can also cause issues with the boosters in my track as 4 cars nose to tail is a lot of weight to shift to the top of the track.
In general, I prefer 45g-50g as it gives you a chance to add some weight to lower your cars CoG while not just being about how much weight you can shove in it.
Weight standard seems to be 60 g or less on most tracks, besides drags. I think that is a good weight, you can always go less.... sports cars and such I do at 50-55 g's
