Race Series with Multiple Classes.

tastelikedirt Thursday, 8/1/2013

I'm wondering peoples thoughts on if this is good or not so good idea.

The Cops and Robbers with two classes makes sense where there are two classes. One for Cops one for robbers. Basically two separate races traveling together. With separate points for the separate classes.

It's where you start racing the winners of the separate classes, that's where it could cause some confusion points wise. Running as a grudge match to find out which is faster is a fun thing to do to. I understand that.

Anyway. There's been some new race proposals floating out there, for example the Born To Be Wild series viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1387

Where there is a class for the year you were born and a class for your favorite real world car. Not quite as interconnected like Cops and Robbers. Doesn't roll off the tongue as well, at the very least. Personally I say the more racing the better. I'm getting ready cars for both classes. So I'm not complaining, just wondering if anybody has thoughts.

Well you could have a series that races like Pro-stock, stock, Gassers, funny cars, and nitro rails where you would have 5 different classes but they would never race a car from a different class except by a challenge. Is that the kind of idea you are talking about?

I mean, does a race series need more than one class?

IMO it is a lot less confusing if we keep with racing just one class per series, and if there are two classes keep them separated. I don't recall Pro-Stock racing against Top Fuel in NHRA, and if they were to it would probably be for fun and not for points.

And while were throwing stuff out there, if you plan to enter a race go by the rules that are posted. It's one thing to ask if a car is legal for the class but it's quite another to ask if a car can run that doesn't conform to the rules at all. If you let one person bend then rules everybody should be allowed to.

I was out of town until yesterday, and only had a chance to kinda do a quick scan of the different series going on right now.
Things amiss everywhere.

I know there is a ton of things with the born to be wild series, I'm really kind of sorry for trying it, I was not expecting so many different problems. The first post has been updated numerous times because of different discussions. It started out as one class with many changes and updates to the first page from the discussions and thoughts on many matters, a second class ended up being added, and there were discussions on how to do that, how to run, how to score, etc. Things are so mixed up now that I am confused also on what to do.

Like some others I am fairly new to the boards, this is the first time trying a series start, and I think I have failed miserably at that. I don't know all the old ways, or first ways series were run, scored, etc... I have seen several different ways of running and scoring, that was why I asked for suggestions.

I want to keep racing here, I hope to host some tournaments at some point, I think it would be a ton of fun to host. I have a blast building and entering cars for these different series.

I think maybe we all should discuss some rules about classes, scoring, and seeding for start. Maybe try having some kind of standard rules for these. Some of the series I entered, I raced the same entrants on almost all of them, I know the random draw does that, but perhaps there is a way to keep track and keep it from happening as often in a series.

I am totally confused right now.

@Carl- I Didn'T Mean To Bend Any Rules For Anyone I Was Simply Just Trying Not To Be So Uptight With The Rules I Came Up With Just So It Could Be More Exciting And Next Time I Will Make Rules More Clear And Simple.I Didn't Intend For It To Cost So Much ConfusioN. i Hope It Dont Push Some Of The Racers Away From Wanting To Run My Championship. Consider This A Lesson Learned For The Future Especially To Us Newbies.

Maybe We Could Come Up With A Standard Set Of gUidlines That Every Host StaRting A Series Can Follow. The Guidlines Would Include Rules For 1 Class Single Elimination Either Single Car Entries And Multiple Car Entries And Also Double Elimination Guidlines. Then Other Set Of Guidlines For A Multiple Class Series.

. . . And Next Time I Will Make Rules More Clear And Simple.

Kharvest, your rules were very clear and simple and easy to understand, they really were.

Some of the series I entered, I raced the same entrants on almost all of them, I know the random draw does that, but perhaps there is a way to keep track and keep it from happening as often in a series.

Crazy. That's another thing that has been discussed in a couple of other threads. Slowly I think people are working towards a solution. But if you want to find those threads, good luck.

Well said TLD, and nobody should be stressed about any of this.

Like I said earlier, my point was for entrants to follow the rules laid out by the host. If you want to race something different then by all means offer to begin a series (or a single race, they don't all have to be serieseses!).

As for pairing cars when you are hosting a race in a series, it is sorta' up to the host to do just a little bit of homework. Hopefully the host is following the series and knows what cars belong to who and how they were paired in previous races. A host need not wait until the cars are in his hands to see who raced against who in previous races and prepare a bracket before the cars arrive. Limiting a series to five venues helps out here too.
