RLD Workshop - What'cha Modding?
Ferrari Testarossa Gold Medal Speed...decent stock car, but the Gold Medal Speed models with the wire lace wheels tend to be the superior racers in that line...so going to modify it a little and see it will become nasty.
I've got a question on sanding wheels. Does anyone have trouble with the wheels getting too loose from sanding in circles or am I doing it incorrectly? Thanks

Thanks TE. I didn't think that I was using too much downforce but apparently I must be. I start incrementally at 600 and go to 2500. There seems to be a lot of friction when sanding using the ovals, so I started using graphite on the wheels/axles during the sanding to reduce the friction. Sometimes sanded wheels end up being slower than stock wheels so I guess I haven't figured it out yet.
I sand with the axels still in the chassis as well, but I do it by hand slowly with 400 grit and finish with 800 grit. I'd have to post a video to truly show...and I will, but the method is based on Fine Finish Woodworking and it does the job...a wheel is not done until the wobble is gone.
- I look forward to that. I have been sanding them in the donor chassis — Mopar_Mafia

I'm glad this subject has come up! I've been messing around with a little different technique...I'll start a thread on it. I spin the wheels with a dremel and wet stand them. I'm liking the results so far. I'll be around today, so I might be able to work on my Byway man and put up some pics.
Just got more polishing disc in the nick of time...my last one was played.

- Oh, okay, sure TE...now I have to find some convertibles to modify! :) — 72_Chevy_C10
I'm lining up the Mods I want to start the year off with, and the Speed Slayer was a good start for me in stepping out of my comfort zone, overall I'm pleased with the progress I made in my rookie year on the Modified Circuit. There is definite room for improvement and really looking forward to doing this casting my Daughter aka Speed Force racing picked out last time we were bin diving at Walmart....the El Viento, her words...."Dad this one looks like it would be a good modding platform"....gotta love it and now I owe it to her to make a fast one!!!
