Entries for this race is now closed.  See below the picture for a little note from me.

Rockin’ Surf Drags (Thanks Bill for the Name Idea) is a drag race. Entries for this race will be any make and model vehicle that is in a song. For example Deuce Coupe, 409, GTO, etc.

**Edit: I know that some cars will be difficult to find.  Are you going to find a '32 Ford Thunderbird, most likely not, but if you have a 85 Thunderbird, it's a Thunderbird. If you are questioning it, please feel free to contact me.  I want this to be a fun event for everyone.  Get as close to the song as possible, and it will run. **

Concept of this race came from listening to a couple Beach Boys songs with my youngest, and watching her dance to it. I was like, you know what, I can do a simple drag race to start off my channel, and have fun with music at the same time.
So with that, lets make music together on the track.

When entering, please include the following information:
Division: Stock, Amateur, Pro
Driver Name
Team Name
and if you would like Country, but not needed.
Car that you choose, and Song title and Artist car is included in.

Rules & restrictions

  • Stock and modified entries allowed
  • 80g maximum weight
  • 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • Limit 1 entries per division (That's now a total of 3 you can enter)
  • Stock - Only thing that can be done is a paint job only. No lube, no weight, no axle swapping. Stock is stock, other than paint job (Rip and Run).
  • Amateur - 50 gram Maximum weight - no other restrictions
  • Pro - 80 gram Maximum weight - no other restrictions.

Dates & deadlines

All entries must be received by the host before Wednesday, 1/19/2022. Racing is scheduled for Saturday, 1/22/2022. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.

Was originally going to have this race on the 7th of January, but with the Holiday season coming up, I wanted to give more time for cars to arrive.

How to enter

Contact the tournament host to get the shipping address for entry.

Include at least $6.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. Entries not getting returned will be store and become track scenery and running on future track(s).  (USPS Small Flat-Rate box is $9.20)

Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry (You can use Redline's linked <---- or type and print it, just as long as it has Division: Stock, Amateur, Pro, Driver Name, Team Name, if you would like Country, but not needed, and Car that you choose, and Song title and Artist car is included in. Plus return address if getting car back.)

Track

2 lane drag strip - length 10 feet - Arduino based custom built timer system (test video will be posted on channel).

Race format and scoring

This will be best 2 out of 3 tournament. First car that gets 2 wins moves on. Cars will alternate lanes between each race.

The car that wins the final race will be declared the winner. Race host has final decision in all races.

Bracket seeding will be random in your division.

Penalties/DNF

Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

No controversial decals or paint schemes on vehicles. It just saves me from the headache. If you have any controversial things, I will contact you and explain the situation and agree upon a solution so you can at least have your car race.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.

When cars arrive, they will be checked in via the KCLH Techs, and info and photos posted on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/groups/585092825908412

Prizes

Custom Laser Engraved Wooden plague with a picture of your car and your Racer name and team. There will be one plague for each division.

Broadcast:

The race will be casted on youtube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UC1ECMtibEkztPuM6uJcGniA/videos

Note: If you are having issues with funds and can't get a car to the race, please contact me, we can arrange something.

Example of Trophy Plaque:

Entries are counted and video will be posted in the next 24hrs on the YouTube channel showing all entries.  There will be a link to the video on the Facebook group and here.  Thank you all that entered, and for the support. Just for clarification: can you only enter 1 car total or could I enter 1 per category? Ex. Enter 1 stock car and 1 pro car

  • 1 car only, doesn't matter category. Thanks for asking. — KCLH_Racing

Some examples of car songs that can be used (cars in the song are in parentheses):

"Shut Down" - The Beach Boys (Corvette Stingray and a "413", aka a SuperStock Dodge)
"Hey Little Cobra" - The Rip Chords (Shelby Cobra)
"Slick Black Cadillac" - Quiet Riot (Cadillac)
"Take It Easy" - The Eagles (the "flatbed Ford")

"My Mighty GTO" - Jan and Dean (Pontiac GTO)
"Three Window Coupe" - Jan and Dean (Generally a '32 Ford coupe, but the three window was also made by Buick and Chevrolet)
"Hot Stocker" - Jan and Dean (1957 Chevy)
"Freeway Flyer" - Jan and Dean (While not exactly mentioned, it's a police car!)
"Hot Rod Lincoln" - Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen (Model A with a Lincoln engine)
"Bitchin' Camaro" - The Dead Milkmen (Camaro)
"Little Red Corvette":- Prince (Corvette)
"Dixie Rose Deluxe's Honky Tonk, Feed Store, Gun Shop, Used Car, Beer Bait, BBQ, Barber Shop,  Laundromat" - Trent Willmon ('87 Cadillac)
"Cadillac Ranch" - Chris LeDoux ("... a genuine '59 Coupe DeVille" (Cadillac))

There are plenty more songs, obviously, but this is a decent list to get y'all started on whatever you're building.

  • "Xxplosive" - Doctor Dre (Six Deuce Impala) — CrazyEights
  • "Ain't going down ('til the sun comes up) - Garth Brooks (pickup truck) — CrazyEights
  • "Pink Cadillac" - Bruce Springsteen — CrazyEights
  • @EightOC: technically the “pickup truck” doesn’t qualify, as there is no make listed. The other two you listed do qualify, though. — SpyDude
  • Love the list Spy Dude. Thank you for your assistance on getting a good list out. — KCLH_Racing
  • Spy Dude, sent you a message. — KCLH_Racing
  • "Maybellene" by Chuck Berry ... Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Also, a V8 Ford. — GenX_VintageRacing
  • "Accidental Lovers" by The Blenders. Ford Ranger & Yugo — GenX_VintageRacing
  • Just to clarify: that is NOT a '32 Ford Thunderbird .. it's a '32 Ford (aka "Deuce" coupe) AND a Thunderbird. — SpyDude

So the "stock" is 50g for the amateur? And the "pro" is a full on modified? Anything goes?

  • Stock appears to be basically rip and run. Amateur looks like 50g, Pro is 80g. — SpyDude
  • Stock is Rip and Run as Spy Dude stated. Amateur is 50g and Pro 80g anything else goes, except Dry Lube Only. — KCLH_Racing
  • Question: Stock. Will the cars be given a graphite dusting, or run straight out of the package? I’d kinda like mine graphited, please, but if that is against the rules, so be it. — SpyDude
  • To answer your question: would like stock to stay stock. No lube or anything. Paint job is allowed so that the car has your flare to it and not everyone looking the same. — KCLH_Racing

Oh my goodness...I'd love to get in on this...there is an obscure 1990's Japanese pop band from the 90's with a song called "Mini Cooper"...

  • Seriously? Got a link? Always interesting to find new car references in songs. — SpyDude
  • Go for it Canuck. Let's get a Cooper on the drag strip. — KCLH_Racing
  • Following up with Band and song…Band-“Pizzicato Five” Song- “Mini Cooper” — Crazy_Canuck
  • Awesome - What division? This is going to be awesome. Got some great entries coming in. — KCLH_Racing
