RTL Blind Trial Season Results
Greetings Redline Derby Fans...and welcome to the Blind Trial Season of the .
Lots of excitement surrounding the first ever matches between these teams--excitement that masked some rather sloppy play in some of what we saw today. Can't fight those opening tournament jitters, that's for sure.
Let's go to the RTL highlights for Tournament One.
MATCH ONE: RAMBLERS at COUGARS
Any time you've got the individual league champion on your team, you've got to be considered the favorite in team competition, so, the Nash Ramblers came into this game with a lot of expectations on them. How would the Cougars and their slow & steady offense do against them?
Not so well. Redline Derby put the Ramblers up to an early lead, bolstered by iowastockcars...while their defense bent but never broke. The Cougars, in front of the hometown Mercury fans, simply couldn't catch up...and the Ramblers take the first ever win in history.
RESULT: VALIANTS 51 - BEARCATS 38

Would the teams that struggled in the first game of the season come back with strong showings in the second round? Would the teams that dominated the first game continue their dominance against new teams?

MATCH ONE: FIREBIRDS at RAMBLERS
Returning to Nash, victorious, the Ramblers welcomed another team that had won its first round match up in the Firebirds. The Ramblers put the clamps on Atlcelica and shut the Firebirds completely down in the second half, while getting their scores from a strong offensive performance by iowastockcars...and that made the hometown fans quite happy.

And the first week of the Blind Trial season of the continued with Tournament Three.
Out of the four games in this round, three were closely fought nailbiters...and one...well, not so much.
Let's go to the RTL highlights for Tournament Three.
MATCH ONE: RAMBLERS at BEARCATS
With two wins under their belts, the Ramblers should have felt confident taking on any opponent--but the Stutz Bearcats were not just "any" opponent--they were one of the top scoring teams in the entire AND they had the home field advantage. In the opening quarter, team captains Redline Derby and SSLS6 slugged it out to a virtual draw. In the second quarter, Bane pushed the Bearcats to a seemingly insurmountable lead.
However, the Stutz fans were again disappointed by watching their beloved Bearcats surrender the lead in the fourth and final quarter with a gutty performance by the Ramblers' Zoom. The Ramblers are undefeated. The Bearcats, although scoring well in every game so far, are a surprising 1 and 2 so far in league action.

Week Two of the Blind Trial season of the began with Tournament Four. Would the teams that did well during the first week of the season continue their success? Could the teams that struggled in the three tournaments of week one find a way to turn things around?
Only one way to find out...
Let's go to the RTL highlights for Tournament Four.
MATCH ONE: JAVELINS at RAMBLERS
Perhaps no team was as disappointed with their start of the season as the AMC Javelins, who not only went 0 & 3, but looked completely lost doing it. The fans weren't happy, the players weren't happy and those who had predicted big things for the Javelins this season were definitely losing money. Meanwhile, the Nash Ramblers were riding high in the La Salle Division lead and an unblemished record. Coming back home, it's possible they expected an easy time of it.
The Javelins' team captain, who had been held scoreless in the three Javelins losses, put points on the board in the first quarter--which must have been some measure of relief for the AMC faithful. However, the Ramblers held a slim 4 point lead at the end of that quarter anyway. Then, seattlegreyy, who had been responsible for all of the Javelins' points so far this season and who's scoring average was fairly consistent, put up about half of what he was normally scoring per game. Luckily, his defense was strong--he kept the Ramblers' Bandeeze/Ohana scoreless.
Going into the half, the Javelins actually held the lead. Could they hold it? Well, the third quarter proved that they could not only hold it--but they could expand it. JDC 442 Racing, the Javelins' highest scorer in this game, dominated iowastockcars. Ramblers fans were in shock as it seemed like their team had taken their opponents too lightly.
However, in a mad fourth quarter rush...the Ramblers pressed the Javelins, trying to desperately claw their way back from the hole they had dug themselves. Zoom's stingy defense and scrambling offense brought the Ramblers close...and with the last few seconds ticking off the clock, The Ramblers, with their home field advantage, managed to tie the game. This becomes the first tie in history. At the end of the day, the Ramblers remain undefeated and the Javelins are still looking for their first win--but the results were certainly different than anyone had expected.

And Week Two of the Blind Test Season concluded with Tournament Five, where none of the four matches on the schedule ended up being terribly close...but some of the results were quite surprising.
And now, here are the RTL highlights for Tournament Five.
MATCH ONE: RAMBLERS at HORNETS
Shaken by their unexpectedly close match against the Javelins, the Ramblers headed to Hudson...where the Hornets fans were enjoying the second of their two match homestand, with a renewed sense of purpose. They wanted to show why they remained one of only two teams not to lose this season.
They faced a Hornets team that had regained some of their pride and respect. The Hornets were back at .500. They were dug in a ready for a fight. Unfortunately for the home team, the Ramblers team captain, Redline Derby, pushed them down into a first quarter hole that they never got out of. Despite a strong performance from Thunder 424 that nearly put them within spitting distance, this was not going to be the day that the Hornets beat the mighty Ramblers.
But, they sure made a game out of it...and there may be some worry in Nash about just how undefeatable their team is...
