Should I crash the ridiculously expensive 80th Anniversary Collector set?
So I while back I actually bought The Mattel 80th Anniversary Hot Wheels Original 16 Rally Case Set:

If you haven't seen Junkyard Joust, I crash cars in a sporting competition with action commentary. I really want to crash these and use them the way diecast cars are supposed to be used...for fun!

You have the collector's set in hand, ready to go, yet there's a fundraiser to make that special event take place? I must be missing something crucial in the proposal
Maybe the main thrust is to strip away the mystique of the anniversary set and treat little cars as fodder for the joust regardless of perceived value and that I can hold in my head. I question if we the audience need "pay to play" over our heads in the matter

Hmmm...well, while I agree with the "toys are meant to be played with" sentiment, I don't know why you'd want to smash up a collector set like that, let alone an expensive one. I mean, you're basically asking people to pay you to make up for the cost, right? That's...different...gotta say.
Now if you were fundraising to smash cars in the name of a charity or something like that, then that's something else and probably more worth it from a donator point of view, imo.
BUT...like was said, they're your cars so do as you please. And if people are willing to pay you direct just for the chance to watch the cars smash, more power to ya.

Better that you are floating the idea HERE and not Reddit (I checked a day's worth of posts in r/DieCastRacing and r/HotWheels). That hive mind will send out for more pitchforks & torches.
The main question at hand is not sacrificing a coveted set to Chor'Goth The Infinite Horror, it is your audience asked to foot the bill. Not the best optics. This in no way will have me unsubbing however the plan shakes out for you, let me be clear
What would you say to making this a top tier Patreon exclusive?
- Hey Chris, the 80th anniversary set wasn't in my budget to purchase. I couldn't raise the funds before I bought the set because there is no way to guarantee getting something from the RLC club before it sells out. Otherwise, I could have tried to raise the money first, instead I thought it would be better to wait and run a GoFundMe after I get the set and if that was successful, even marginally, I could make the video. I figured if people weren't enthusiastic about the idea, I could just resell the box after ordering if necessary. But after I floated the idea to patrons and viewers on discord everyone seemed really excited about it and so that is why I launched the GoFundMe. I'm not making any money here. I don't make money off Junkyard Joust. I fund the videos and pay the crew. If I was paying for the show without patron/viewer funding it would have ended years ago. I have to pay a crew to make this show. On my other channels I often do charity streams. — JunkyardJoust

If you're purchasing the set and it belongs to you, then do with it as you wish.
But, yes, I'll be keeping my eye out for whatever video that you choose to make. Although I might cringe a little when the Custom Corvette rolls down your track. It's such a pretty car. ;-)
Why would Junkyard Joust buy cars and not smash them?? I mean, isn't the sole purpose of the channel to break collector's hearts ;).
P.s. When is the next mail-in joust? I know you're busy building a new track, but I've been waiting for almost a year to send some in!

- i don't see an issue. people use crowd funding all the time. MTR runs a great track, and charges a monthly fee to run races. I have considered things like that. 3d charges a membership for added content. — dr_dodge

I have used TH cars, vintage 70's cars, and others to build race cars with.
I'll chose what I want to run, and see what it's going for on ebay.

I have JJ'd 3 teams. build pretty cars to smash. But I also try to make my prettiest for the freezie, home of the spike.
Aaron runs a top notch operation, and also does considerable amount of other videos not die cast related.
Some are great. So remember, he is making a living, like some others here, doing what he loves
