Start Gate Panic
Getting ready for the Group B Rally Cars and Sardine Race. Was final testing of the addition to the track when the start button let go, We have a Radio Shack here but last time i was in the store it was pitiful for anything. So question is, is the button a Single phase? can I just tap wires and have gate close? If I can't get it going I will have to order a 
New one and JLH just got sold!

Those look like standard momentary push buttons. they make a connection when pushed down and when released the connection goes away

- What you were looking for is called a momentary on switch. Not to be confused with the momentary off switch. These are basically 50 Cent switches - Ace has some of these marked up to $5 or more. But just be sure you are getting momentary ON. There are many options on Amazon as well — AbbyNormal
Not single phase... that is related to power. It is most likely a single pole push button switch. It is either a Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) push button switch. They can either be maintained or momentary. You need to show the bottom connections and I can help you better. Normally there are two, three or more connection points. Most likely this will have two. You will also need a multimeter or continuity tester to determine the configuration. Everyone else is guessing unless they have that unit and have either tested that switch or have seen a schematic.

- Glad you got it sorted... seems like it is always something! Those switches are very light duty and maybe not suited to the rigors of racing. If you continue to use that gate you may want to consider upgrading to a heavier duty switch if time permits. I'd be happy to help you with it if needed. Purely a GUESS, since a reset function exists separately the start button should be single phase. I defer to better minds in this
