The Ultimate King of the Hill Hot Wheels Drag Racing Challenge

Think your Hot Wheels drag car is the fastest? Here's your chance to prove it!

Welcome to the Ultimate King of the Hill Summer in the Desert Challenge—an ongoing, open-entry drag racing competition on my custom 10-foot drag strip. There are no deadlines or sign-up windows. You can enter your car at any time. I will keep the racing alive until the end of September. If racers want to send more than one entry, that would be up to them and I say the more cars the better.

Here's how it works:

One car holds the throne. Every new challenger races the current King of the Hill.

Win, and your car becomes the new King. Lose, and your tournament run is over.

When your car is eliminated, I'll safely return it to you.

New challengers can join whenever they want, keeping the competition alive year-round.

I'll race cars and film matches as my schedule allows, with every race uploaded to my YouTube channel for everyone to watch.

This isn't a one-time tournament—it's a continuous battle to see which Hot Wheels car can reign supreme. Whether your car survives one race or defends the crown against dozens of challengers, every victory earns its place in King of the Hill history.

If you think your build has what it takes, send it in and challenge the King!

Rules & restrictions

  • Stock and modified entries allowed
  • 65g maximum weight
  • 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • Limit 1 entries per household
  • Retail axles and wheels only. FTE/NPA axles allowed.
  • Any lube
  • The only allowed modification, as such, is lubing the axles. No other mods.
  • Send entries as you see fit. Racing is scheduled for Friday, 7/24/2026 and will continue until the end of September. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.

How to enter

Send your entries to:
Lloyd Robertson, 34261 W. Cocopah St., Tonopah, AZ, 85354

Include at least $7.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. Entries not getting returned will be given to the winner as part of the prize.

Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry

Track

10-foot dragstrip with a Slanman start gate and timing system. The ramp is about 2 feet high with a 3-length. It can be seen in my latest videos. Any questions, reach out to me.

Race format and scoring

This will be a single-elimination tournament. A car will move on in the bracket only when it wins a single race. Lane choice will be decied from a chip draw. I do my best to make sure both lanes are as equal as possible.

The car that wins the final race will be declared the winner. Race host has final decision in all races.

Bracket seeding will be random.

Penalties/DNF

Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.

The rules say modified, then say not modified.

Which one is it?

Wheel sanding? Some of those castings are pretty rough, right out of the package ...
