The HalfFast HalfHeavyChevy ( a.k.a. Project 57)

With all the talk of Featherweights lately, I took on a "Project 57" build.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

The HalfHeavyChevy weighs in at only 20.4 grams! The engine alone weighs 6.7 grams!

Here's what I did: I started with a current mainline '57 Chevy which has a metal body and plastic chassis (40.5g). The body and windows were replaced with a plastic "Track Aces" body and black windows from around 2006 (that I found it in Smitty's trash bin!). I sanded all of the tampos off of the body. The mainline's plastic chassis is about 3/32" longer than the Track Aces metal chassis was and is barely noticable. The rear tire/axle and engine was robbed from a current Mad Fast dragster. The front tires were the rears on the mainline '57.

If you've seen any of my other builds you probably know by now that this project is unpainted! I'm curious to see how much weight will be added by paint.

I dig it! Man I've got a hankering for some customizing but I'm still away from home for the holidays.

spray bomb silver onto a coated paper plate... tear off a paper match...dip the torn end in the paint... [ angle cut for sharper brush point if needed] paint the whole taillight... later repeat with red... then paint in the taillight lens... silver trim is the bezel...
works with number plates, headlights, door handles, parking lights...engine parts etc...i've even used the paint as a way to fill small dings and gaps...

Interesting enough the paint only added .2 grams! I didn't paint the top as it had a pearl look to the white. Clear was sprayed over the entire body.

After the above photo was taken we took the '57 over to the HalfFast Garage for some dyno time and they blew the engine! We pulled the one out of the newly acquired tooned '69 Camaro and promptly installed it. The new engine is even 5.4g lighter which means less weight on the front end!

The weight is now 15.1 grams as it sits.

Got a little more detailing done thanks to an old school modeling buddy of mine:

He builds 1/24 scale models and I challenged him to apply Bare Metal foil the head & tail lights on something a little smaller!

Last month I added a bunch of weight and skinny fronts to transform the '57 into a GASSER.
In testing it was my third fastest car.
