The Return of Goldenrod
Goldenrod I is my first car that competed in a race. It looks like a dragster except is much more of a town car or a show car than a race car. Despite being in last place in Redline Revival, she still has potential.

To test its progress, Goldenrod has been raced against an FTE Cadillac V-16. Despite being lighter, the Cadillac was quicker.

Wheels and wheel wells have been polished with 2000 grit sandpaper, axles straightened, new graphite added, and weighs 53 grams. It's still not as fast as the Cadillac.
- sometimes less is more, I have over worked an axle or car to the point of being much slower — Traction-Event
There's a flaw with the axles-- corrosion. These axles were from a 2011 DeLorean release, when Mattel made worse FTEs than the early ones.
To align the axles, I've created a low-income jig from cardboard and toothpicks. Easy to make and compact.

- Simple. Easy. Good idea! Looks easier than my glued pencil idea. — CrzyTrkrDude
I'm obtaining some FTE wheels from TE. They'll replace the overworked ones.
I've finished the return of Goldenrod. New, larger wheels have been added, more weight, axles covered in graphite, and repainted gold to remove paint chippings.
as a trial maybe spray some black paint into a "coated" paper plate,
cut a paper match at an angle,
dip the fresh cut match into the paint , use it as a brush,
quickly paint all the negative areas in the cast engine,
then before any can dry wipe off all you can with a paper towel, leaving the dips [spark plug holes, valvecover fins, etc] black or "shaded", realism...
maybe paint the fan belts, blower scoop's orafice and the bellhousing black
Goldenrod now has about as much speed as the Caddy. It might go faster once I sand out some of the burrs on the wheels.
Are you putting graphite in he axles?
