Tips for removing super glue?

ConMan_Customs Tuesday, 2/13/2024

I seem to have made a mistake, gentlemen.

I superglued an axle thinking it was straight. It was not. My beloved Bentley is now overly fond of making left turns. Any advice for removing super glue from my axle/chassis without destroying one or both in the process?

My current game plan is to hack at it with clippers until it gives way, but i'm curious if anyone more experienced than me has a better method

Edit: and i know axle jigs are a thing and I should buy one, I just haven't gotten around to it yet

Superglue is a curse for axles. Throw it away and have a go with epoxy.

As for removing super glue may I suggest a bench grinder or a hammer and chisel  :)

Ask the missus for her nail polished remover. Use a cotton bud and gently dab at the glue. Takes a while but it slowly softens and you can lift the axle out.

Just be careful the wheels don't slide down the axle into the glue when removing it.

Or throw the wheels away and start new??

  • I hate superglue. It crystalizes and crumbles with time. Acetone works, somewhat, and as was said if it gets in your wheel gaps, you are done for. I don't really like jb, and and moving to soldering stub axles, no glue on the chassis, only interior stuff. g — dr_dodge
  • Good to know... good point about it crumbling, doc. I'll try out epoxy glue next. I thought gel super glue would be fine but I'm already noticing some crumbling — ConMan_Customs

acetone...

To be embarrassingly honest, I super glued my hand shut while holding the super glue tube that the bottom was ripped apart, and I got some Vegitable oil on it, and it took a couple of minuts, but it eventually came off.

  • there was a thread on the 4 x 4 forum years ago about bed liner application, many beers, & relieving yourself without washing your hands first. funny, but really not so much, at least for one person — dr_dodge
  • super glue in the eye, for example would be real bad. safety first — dr_dodge
  • Ha! Well, that's good to know. Not sure if veggie oil will be my first choice but it's in the back of my mind — ConMan_Customs
