Total Newbie

Yote Saturday, 8/2/2014

I just wanted to introduce myself after stumbling onto this site while net surfing.  Wow!  Where has this been in my life?  I'm an older married dad with two teenagers and one out of the house.  I have tons of interests including tabletop gaming, wargaming, etc.  I've always enjoyed picking up some cars from time to time, memories of my childhood, etc.  I've always enjoyed having a few around.  In cleaning out old boxes during a move I found a couple of 1997 Hot Wheels.  This led to me eventually finding the site and I wish I would have found this stuff years ago.  I love the idea of doing tournaments and mail-in races.  How fun!

Anyway, I'm a total newbie so bear with me as I get my wheels rolling on this!  I'd like to build a few tracks and maybe do a few races if my wife won't scalp me for adding ANOTHER hobby to the pile.

Thanks!

Yote

Hi Yote!

And Welcome! I am very new here too, and I just recently hosted my first event (the Workshop series race). And I will be hosting a 'City' series event this Fall...these are mail-in, totally stock races...and they are a fun way to get started!

This is an awesome board...and a lot of fun! Good luck!

Welcome to Redline Derby, Yote! Glad you found us and like what you see so far. You'll find all the information you need to get started...most of it in the links at the very top of the home page.

I'm the "manager" around these parts so if you have any trouble, problems or have any specific questions, feel free to PM me or send in an email. But posting questions for everyone to see will almost always get you the best results. There's a lot of experience in this site when it comes to building and racing, so welcome to the hobby.

I think you'll find this a little cheaper than some of the other gaming hobbies :) I've done my stint in table top gaming too and know that's not cheap either...although I do miss painting mini figs...guess I just replaced that with painting Hot Wheels.

You ever play/remember Car Wars? I know some guys that have customized Hot Wheels to match their character cars from that game. Was pretty neat stuff.

I played that and even made a custom gauge to figure cornering.   It was a blast.
