Okay, let's make this one official...I think that it will be fun to see these cars run on a bunch of different tracks! After the Sedan race, I will start setting up my 'Road Course' track. And I hope that several of you will road courses for this race...

Here's the specs:

The Cars:

-40 Grams

-Any Wheels

-1.3" high, 3.5" long, and orange track wide

The models of the cars allowed will be the cars that raced in the American Trans-Am series in the late '60's and early '70's...

The Tracks:

I'd like to see everybody get creative with their tracks...I think that the tracks should have 2 of these three at least:

-a loop

-a gap jump

-one 180 degree turn or two 90 degree turns

Drag races with these cars can also be held, and  even jumping for distance.

Who would like to host?




I was watching some videos of this year's Top Truck challenge...and they really beat the heck out of those trucks! And, of course, it got me thinking!

Is there any interest in running the cars on tracks other than straight-line, drag style racing...like this, or similar...

It would take a little different style car to run fast if it had to go around some curves. And, each host's track would have different challenges! 

I'm just throwing another idea out there! I like the straight line racing, myself...but, it might be fun to try to get them around some corners!

Okay, I had a brainwave about this...since this would involve going around curves (and jumps and loops, TE), why not use the cars from one of the best racing series ever...the Trans Am series from the late '60's and early '70's!

Taken from the Wikipedia page...

The series was formed at the dawn of the pony car era and was derived from the SCCA's A & B Sedan amateur Club Racing classes,[1] based upon commercially produced cars which had been modified for racing competition. Originally the series was open to FIA Group 2 Touring Cars[2] and it featured two classes, Over 2.0 Liter and Under 2.0 Liter, with both classes running together. The series was best known for competition among American V8 sedans such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Plymouth Barracuda, Mercury Cougar, AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird, and Dodge Challenger in the 1960s and early 1970s.

So for next year I'm actually planning a race series where teams will race on a number of different types of tracks.  Several will be straight drag tracks of different lengths, some will have curves, and one has a 22 inch gap jump.  I'm also in the process of constructing a Baja track with jumps, hills, curves, and even different track surfaces.

I'm still working out all the details and rules, but most of the tracks are completed.  More to come before the end of the year.

I had an idea awhile back for a new style of game that included a curve. It was less racing head-to-head and focused on customizing cars for a specific purpose. I made a prototype track and it worked okay but I didn't pursue it cause I kind of lost interest (probably a sign).

Basically, car goes down a ramp into a curve that out to a straight...but the straight has a hard end, not a finish line. You get points for getting as close to the end as possible without going over. One part Shoot the Moon, one part paper football.

I might revisit this idea at some point, I still think it could be an interesting challenge for modders.

I'm hoping that this series can be run on several tracks...all very different, to determine the best 'All-around' car. TE suggested that drag races and even jumping for distance be included!

All ideas welcome...I love this era car and the I think we should stick to the 'over 2.0 litre' cars that were raced. American pony cars!

But, the 'road' style courses should be a time trial style of race rather than head-to-head...everyone gets the same track that way.

If this series takes off I can set up a  single lane track,

 Sloppy starter,  [1] Drag Tracks angled track sec., the transfer, [1] section D T. which is converted to orange track for a loop d loop [ if the cars can maintain the speed needed]  and maybe a jump / landing while being timed... my scrap hot curves are going to ccr...

I would love to put this in my event track.  Calvin's "Big Air Jump" set.

How about these requirement for the tracks:

Each event track must have at least two of these three

1- a loop (a HW loop)

2- a gap jump (nothing TOO crazy here)

3- one 180 degree curve or two 90's

You can have all three (or more), but each track must have at least two of the three

And each track needs a reliable timing system...Drag Tracks or better.

Sound good?

  • my drag tracks flashes the elapsed time and the reaction time, so I just subtract the reaction time for the ET — 72_Chevy_C10

  • You don't need to subtract it. In real racing anyway. — FatMike
  • On a drag track, the timer starts when the green light comes on and stops at the finish line, so to get your cars time, you need to subtract — 72_Chevy_C10
