Video editing

So, I have noticed that some of my videos look like this on screen.

And some look like this on screen.

I figured out that my video editing app is causing this.

I record, edit and upload from my phone. I don't like the blurry bars on top and bottom. And I don't like the smaller screen view. I use YouCut (free version)   What video editing app do you all recommend so this dosen't happen?  I'm trying to avoid any purchase or subscription, if possible. I have enough subscriptions already. And if I keep making purchases for this hobby, my wife probably won't be too happy.

So, what does everyone use to edit their videos?  I like YouCut because I can add opening and closing slides and voice overs. I just don't like how it changes my video aspect ratio. I looked in the settings,  but didn't find a way to get rid of the blurry bars on top and bottom. Or to make it truly full screen.

Any advice is appreciated. I use a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to record, edit and upload.

I did a stint where I shot and edited straight my phone (iPhone) and it worked out pretty well. It was easy and straight forward albeit a little "boring" - but I was also just shooting cars; no commentary or special effects.

With you phone, I'd say just make sure the orientation is correct, presumably horizontal widescreen, otherwise that can jack up the ratios and proportions, even in the editing app.

  • I found InShot. Did a test video and like it so far. Orientation stays the same. No blurry bars on top or bottom of the video when done. Just a watermark in the bottom right corner. I can live with that for the free version. — SteelCityMafia895

DaVinci Resolve is excellent and free.
