Volkswagen Golf MK 1 (Majorette)
There's quite no kill like an overkill.
So, Majorette makes some nice models with suspension. And I like the original Golf. So it's no brainer to turn it to a racer! Too bad they are slow and this model has almost none suspension travel.
Zuru Metal Machines might be the fastest models I can get here and definitely the cheapest too. I just wish I'd find that Golf as a basic model instead of premium. Oh well, we'll see how this goes. Maybe I'll stop misswriting image text too.
By the way, anyone tried Zuru Metal Machines color changers wheels/axles?

Why am I so slow? Well, I got the wheels to fit and sculpted new fenders.
And modified the suspension. Snapping the Majorette spring to two springs gives back axle some independence an now it actually has some travel!
Next I'll fix the axle popping off under the springs.

Great to see you having a go ! Me, being down under, one has to try all the different makes, builds etc to see what works. I love my Majorettes, (Just wish they had better quality control wheels) and Zurus, well, the wheel can be used quite effectively.!
Yeah I note a little builder frustration, with it not being as quick as you had hoped. I dont't know what you are using to measure your speed and progress, but good test set ups are a big help when trying to find speed.
Just on what I can see here...First place I would be looking is your side track clearances. Is the body rubbing the track or your wheels? So many little things can mount up in the quest for speed.
