What are your track & tourney dislikes?

1Jungle_Falls Tuesday, 4/8/2025

My main track is Jungle Falls.  I also have another track called the Jungle Mile.  I have built multiple tracks over the past two years. I have gotten a lot a compliments on my tracks, and appreciate all the love. But..... I know their are people who have some things not so nice to say as well. I don't get to hear those comments though. Im not looking to pick a fight. So this discussion i would like to take a dive into the things you don't care for at Jungle Falls racing complex.  It can be anything from bad decorations to bad track layout.  I am a grown man, you can not hurt my feelings.  I am asking this and understand I might not like what people say but want to hear it. By hearing some negatives I might be able to improve on something I didn't realize was a problem.  I will not hold anyone's opinion against them as I am asking for the truth.

Anything is open, from how I run tournaments. To my YouTube videos, communication during races. Whatever.  Even if you just don't like me...

Please be truthful is all I ask. I am only doing this to get better. I've been doing this for almost 2 years now. So I'm not a seasoned as some and have improved a tremendous amount along my journey.  At least i think I have.

Please don't get upset with someone else's opinion if you don't agree with them, we all have opinions on something that is different from others. If you would rather send a direct message to me I'm OK with that as well.

That's all I got. Thanks for listening and good luck in all tour upcoming races or events.

              Sincerely Jason. Jungle Falls

Discussion

Jungle Falls had a lot of dnf's....but it has improved with the new track modifications (that one hump was removed).

Jungle Mile seems to have a lot of dnf's.   Sometimes feels like there isn't enough grade/pitch/slope on a couple of the straightways to keep cars moving along....and then they tip off the track in a corner.   Not enough speed in my opinion.

I like your program.  Each host needs to run things in a way that works for them.   I am not a fancy editing type of skill set so I do a pause button between races....no editing.   It's what works for me.  Do what works for you.

I guess my only constructive criticism would be dnf's.   Pushed off the track is racing...but improving slopes and corner angles to make it through the corners benefits all racers.

Dutch

  • The Jungle Mile has only had stock cars race on it so far. So maybe some customized cars won't do as bad. — 1Jungle_Falls
  • I agree with to many DNFs. I'm always trying to find a way to fix that. — 1Jungle_Falls
  • Good point about the stock cars only...yeah modified may do better. — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
  • Smooth transitions between track features keeps speeds up & DNFs down. — Benjamin_37

I've only raced there once.  I didn't like that a car I thought was brilliant turned out to be slow then fell off the track completely and broke.  But that's not really on you, is it?

Jungle Falls is a monster.  Just completing laps is an accomplishment.  That makes it unique, and cool.  What you do with the production of your videos, communication, and return shipping is perfectly acceptable in my limited experience.  I'll be back for more soon via Fast or Last and hopefully more.  As of now the only constructive criticism I can offer is maybe more cameras and close ups.  But what you do with what you got is top shelf.

As a builder my biggest complaints are races that never happen, races that happen six months late, cars that are never returned, and cars that return six months after the race.  But these are not problems I had with you and is coming from a guy who's notorious for mailing three days before a deadline.

Keep up the good work.

  • I do try to get races done as quickly as i can. i only have my phone to record races at the moment. If I had more cameras believe me I would use them. — 1Jungle_Falls
  • More cameras = more editing. That scares me! I agree with Rukus...your timeline and returning of cars is top shelf. Thank you. — Dutch_Clutch_Racing

I'll race there again. I'll have to watch the Train/Bus race again but off the top of my head I think you can benefit from more (and brighter) lighting and a camera with a faster frame rate to make the picture quality crisper.

  • Facts a better camera would help. But for now it's just my phone. — 1Jungle_Falls
  • If you add additional lighting at the very least I think you'll find it even helps your phone out. Low lighting really affects cameras, both for stills and motion. — BadWoolRacing
  • I constantly struggle with lack of light, and I have 6 - led floodlights, brightest I could buy. — dr_dodge

The s-curve section is really rough on modified cars. Seems like a lot of dnfs happen there.

It would also be great if your title and thumbnail were a bit more consistent to help identify what race and groups are running. And potentially what cars are in the episode.

I do really appreciate how prompt you are with getting races run on time!

  • The thumbnail was brought to my attention just recently. I see how helpful that can be and will be present moving forward — 1Jungle_Falls

Jungle Falls is a beast of a track, and it's hard to make it down, but I like a challenging track. My bus and train.... Well, they were slow. And top heavy. Nothing the matter with the track.

I like what I've seen of Jungle Mile. It does seem like the grades could be increased, especially on the long straights. I do think that mod cars would run great; like a slow track.

I'm hoping my HiRoller will do good!

A year ago I sent out my first car to my first 'big track' race and that was the Beetle Bonanza. If I had known that Jungle Falls was a monster track and DNF generator I would have been ten times more nervous. But as I vaguely recall my little red/orange beetle made it all the way down - I think in 1st place because everyone else DNF'd. I was flabbergasted and shocked and instantly hooked. It's a special track for me, but as others have said there are some issues.

As Milestone said, better and consistent file naming and thumbnails would be very helpful in the future especially with all the cool side events you have. That makes finding videos and sharing with family and friends easier. I tried looking for my first race but could not find it.

As Dutch mentioned maintaining velocity and DNF's are an issue BUT to me that is just part of the Jungle Falls challenge along with open track racing. However I do agree that there are lower sections that would benefit from a modest speed increase. Increasing the slope would probably shorten the course a bit, which, while I love the long distance tightening it up a bit along with a little speed might add more passing / action towards the end.

It still needs to be a challenging race down - adding some open track 45deg curves would be one way and SlanMan makes CR 45deg 3D parts.

The super casual 'Jungle Fallls vibe' is easy to watch and follow the action. Yeah a start camera would be nice but what you are doing works. The impromptu races are great and keep those up. And the fact that you also are prompt on getting races going and done is huge. As others have said you are running a top shelf race track.

As to your mile track - there are too many DNF's so it needs some tuning. And long length just for the sake of long length may not be better than a shorter tighter route down.

Good luck remember to keep Jungle Falls - a monster. A monster that keeps builders at the bench late into the night wondering ... "Will this make it down that damn track...."

  • The Jungle Mile track has only been tested by stock cars. Customized cars do much better i promise. I can also raise or lower start gate angle if more speed is needed. — 1Jungle_Falls

Overall, I like what you're doing. I'm not a fan of the Jungle mile, but I can say that about most tracks that have over/under loops. The opening 1/4 mile straight I am a big fan of. So far as Jungle Falls, I like it a lot, especially since the dual humps have been taken out. Many of the DNFs happened right there or, at the very least, the cars slowed enough to topple over in the next right hand turn. The dual 45 degree turns just before caused a few hiccups, as well. Faster cars tend to want to go straight towards the upper rail and then rebound down to the bottom and either stall, flip, or have a difficult time making it through the second 45 degree turn. Many of your DNFs happen exiting there. All that said, there are many open tracks that I won't race at because it's just a crap shoot. The tracks are mediocre, at best, and cause more chaos as opposed to rewarding builders for their hard work. Yours does reward speed. It's frustrating watching the faster guys not make it through because of a poor track design. A builder may as well just throw some weights in a stock car, tap some graphite in the wheels, and send their build out the door and still have a great chance of moving on. Jungle Falls is a track that I'll continue to put my best efforts into my builds, because Jungle Falls, for the most part, does reward a builder's hard work. My philosophy is that not everyone deserves a ribbon just for showing up, and crappy performing tracks may as well do just that.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your next event. Thanks.

Jason, speaking only as a fan, I've got remarkably few "notes" for you based on what you've accomplished. Really appreciate all the comments from actual racers here! Perhaps, ha-ha, I don't get why there's a stripped down and scavenged Corellian YT-1300 in the diorama, do you have Jawas who migrated to the Jungle?

I want to touch on Abby's comment about the Beetle Bonanza. Seeing any of this family of casting finish spoke volumes to me about your track building skills. Buy enough AFCR sets, and a track of any size can be laid out -- it is entirely another thing to have it run. Among other aspects, the behaviour of VWs in that event earned my sub! Bay City Darrel held a similar VW event, and I believe he and racers alike knew going in this would be a comparative sitcom of racing entertainment

If you held a deeper background in building modified diecast, I'm sure it would reflect in the tweaks of both tracks. I refer you to Sneaky Bob's Treetops Raceway Park. His course is tuned specifically for a heavier weight range, and stock weight cars will need GPS to find the finish line as they peter out in straights or flop over in turns. I think I saw this with his Craftsman Truck Series tournament.

Has the track performance improved now that the whoop-de-doos midway are gone? Sure. The response from builder participation has been super impressive given the short time you've produced content, hard to get one's foot in the door as a new venue for folks to race at! Easy for me to say in the grandstands, it's on the builder to figure out the individual track's racing line through weight distro and wheel treatment, and this requires time and experience

Not a high point in whatever career a FAN can have, I did eventually have to recommend a total rebuild to a host once. Overly ambitious track design bit them in the rear, and not for the first time, with stock cars that should have been superstars anywhere else fumbling and bumbling to numerous DNFs. When you begin track building, you become an amateur physicist like it or not. All you can do is test and learn. What I see here is undeniably ahead of curve and more so given the length of the main Jungle Falls

Love your tracks the only thing there is would like some commentary for me it adds Excitement to the race.

Thank You

Larry

Track building is such a unique hobby and a skill to be forever struggling to master. I think you have done a really good job at making improvements to your track along the way and building the other tracks just for fun is a good idea because it gives you practice. Like most people have said, making sure cars are able to maintain their speed as best as possible as always key and also making sure that the track is the least likely cause of a DNF. Nobody wants to see their cars falling off the track because the corners Are bouncing up and down or pieces aren't connected well enough and the wheels pop up in the air when they go from one piece to the next, causing them to flip over, spin out, jump off the track whatever. Nothing is ever gonna be perfect but I think if you focus on the little details: making sure pieces are connected as best as possible, making sure all your curves and corners are supported, the rest of it will fall into place. I think these jungle mile track is cool and it's a good place for testing how well cars roll. The only issue I've noticed is After the first curve there's that switch back section and I can see where faster cars might get shaken around too hard and then flip over, but if that's the case, that would be an easy fix to add a couple more track pieces between the 45° Corners.
But most of all keep building, keep trying new things, and continue to refine your process and I will keep racing there as long as there's a track to race on

In my simpleton brain I thought tournaments as a grid of 32 or 64 cars. Little tournament or big tournament. Limit 2 cars. Winner gets all the cars.

To enter is like putting a few bucks into a slot machine. The prize is pot luck.

  • Some drivers are cool with Pink Slip races, what I read on this site from builders is that aspect may give them second thoughts about entering. Sure is simpler for the host, mailing one package over returning individually — Chris_Hood
  • Also you don’t send your best car — alva1370

I don't have any input on the track but I would like to see some team racing events where points are accumulated, rather than a tourney that slower or unfortunate cars are getting DQ'd early on... might be more fun to watch knowing your cars will get to race a full series/tourney and get more time on the track? This is just a new guys 2 cents.
Thanks, keep up the great work hosting!

  • A multi-race point accumulation format, all run on the same track, wouldn't cars that falter in the first round continue to do so? Alternatively, I have seen your points format used well in an event that spans multiple venues. A car has a clean slate to succeed on each following track in that case as it may perform better there. Some hosts bend over backwards to let as many entries have their shot and I salute that even from the grandstands — Chris_Hood
  • The Diecast Derby League... our first multiple tracks series style. Starting 4-19-25. The Fast or Last Tournament. Chase Family Racing, Jungle Falls, Elevation Diecast, and Rick's Comet Tail. Four different styles of racing. Points added up after all tracks are done is winner — 1Jungle_Falls
  • Chris Hood, the cars could potentially falter throughout the event yes but anything can happen on the track. With drivers getting to rotate to different positions at the start I’ve noticed it kind of gives slower cars a chance so in a 2 lane starting gate I think it sometimes levels the playing field. I know there’s some debate about 4 lane vs 2 lane start but I’m not here to debate that in this instance. — Last_and_Furious
  • Jungle_Falls I was lucky enough to get a spot in that event… I am excited to see that play out! — Last_and_Furious
