What's up with the new small wheels?
I'm noticing an increasing number of new castings using the new small diameter wheels. You could chalk it up to the decreased size of many new mainlines but I find it a bit alarming from a performance perspective. The smaller diameter rolling wheel will have to be spinning @ a higher RPM than its probably able to tolertate to achieve the level of performance that we're used to. And even it could, they could easily be upset by every track seam or imperfection.
I do have a few of these cars, they don't roll well out of the package. We'll see what some lubrication can do but I won't be buying any more of them in the mean time.
Has anyone experienced any good performance out of these wheels??

Smaller wheels are more realistic for true 1/64 scale vehicles as the general HW has slightly too-big wheels. But they generally are slower, however I haven't tried lubing any yet.

Offering some HW Wiki links as potential examples. Which recent models fit your description? Like alva said, the smaller wheels have less rolling resistance. On a scale 1/8th mile drag, that could make a difference?
Small wheels up front are used in the real world for faster reaction times. They start rolling easier. On my hill I see small wheel cars consistently get better starts.
