Which car is the best for modifying easily?

NeoNoir Tuesday, 4/21/2026

So I'm quite new to Hot Wheels customisation, and I honestly have no idea which of these 6 muscle cars I should make some mods out of. Got any suggestions??

Cars: '84 Firebird, '69 COPO Corvette, '69 Mustang Boss 302, '69 Charger 500, '71 Mustang Mach 1, '71 GTX

Depends what sort of mods you're talking about. Do you mean custom paint or wheel swap or something like making a show car with opening doors, widebody kit etc?

  • I'm trying to kinda aim for wheel swap and custom paint, so those kinda mods. — NeoNoir

The Mustang Boss 302 has the same axle width and wheel size as a lot of cars, should be easy for a wheel swap.

Should probably start with getting your tools out and ready. Probably check out some tutorials on YT, and have an idea of what you  want the end result to be. Maybe practice on tearing apart some cars you don't care about first before diving into one that you like. There are a few different ways to drill out the rivets, but you can ruin a chassis pretty quickly if the drill doesn't stay centeted. If you have a soldering iron you can try that method as well.

  • Got it. I'll try to practice on some cars (which I don't have interest in) before going for the one I like. — NeoNoir

So.. replying to ManiacMotorsports, I do have 2 versions of the Boss 302. I can't decide which one to pick.

  • Either one would work. I'd modify the red one if you're gonna paint it just because I like the Falken livery on the other one! — ManiacMotorsports
  • Do both! — JBlotner42
  • I'll pick the red one as suggested, though with a metal base, what to do? — NeoNoir

Start by drilling ALL of them (because you know you're going to eventually, anyway....)
