YouTube and A.I. Age Verification Rollout

FeralPatrick Sunday, 8/3/2025

In their infinite wisdom, YouTube has decided to follow the UK's suit and start using AI to verify age for all YouTube users. It appears that one way they will be verifying your age will be based on the content that you watch. And since this hobby is toy-based, I can foresee some issues. I have a premium subscription so I don't have to deal with ads. I'm hoping that will be enough. But for non-premium subscription users, this may come down to choosing between watching diecast racing and surrendering your personal information like your ID just to watch videos on YouTube.

Thoughts?

I'll stop watching YouTube. Nobody gets my ID.

as a host, I am double verified log in thru google

It lets me have less issues on longer vids

so they got my info, but since I mark mine adult, will it block some viewers?

we will see, I guess

(hate how big brother everything has gotten, why I don't carry a phone anymore)

One would think that the profile Google already has on everyone is enough to clear all of us, age wise. Surely there would be cross-talk between them and their subsidiary YT itself, get both platforms on the same page

If the service is free, you're the product being sold. Remember when Googles motto was "Don't Be Evil"? Hah, good times

  • Apparently, the Google sign in is no longer sufficient because the date can be changed or faked. — FeralPatrick

Will be interesting to see what the fallout is. Also, what about shared accounts where kids watch on parents' login. That'll confuse the heck out it

  • the crazy part is in the USA some states require it, and others not. it will be nightmare court cases for years from deplatforming if they aren't smart about it now — dr_dodge

I think ai watches more of my stuff than anyone. One question, is a 4 day old ai as mature as a 2 week old ai?

  • I'll take the views either way...lol — dr_dodge
