Tear offs are the clear plastic sheets they put on windshields (NASCAR and some sports car racing series) and visors (F1 and Indy). Sometime they are tinted for the visor. There is a tag on one corner that lets one guy pull the top layer off during pit stops to "clean" the windshield.

That open hole in the windshield may create to much drag!!!
