Chevroletor with high speed wheel, any good?

Boogie2020 Friday, 2/20/2015

Has anyone here tried a Chevroletor with high speed wheel? Is it fast ? (compare to FTE pals)    My son have a couple of Chevoletors (Yellow and black). It's his favorite hot wheels model but it could not go beyond 3-4th round of downhill tournament ( always got beaten by 09 F150, ZR1 FTE)  I wonder if the new Chevroletor with high speed wheel could do a better job for downhill.

Thanks, PeterC

Very cool casting, but it does not have a good racing reputation. Regardless of wheel/axle style it is a lightweight 31g..I think from memory.  track layout you are running may not favor this type fo car/casting. In my limited experience light cars do best on a constant slight grade. Heavier cars perform better on a track with a decent starting hill then a flat.  again YMMV...

I entered a Chevroletor TH in the 2012 RLD Featherweight challenge. I like them because they have a minimal frontal area(low Cd) and can be fairly quick for their mass. But even against other lightweight cars, my `12 entry rarely made it past the 2nd rounds. I do have a HSRW version and it is faster than my TH version on my track. I've also read @ HWC how some racers have had success w/HSRW Chevroletors. I suppose mine will have to see some more competition before I draw a complete conclusion.

It's not a ton of data but the non-HSW Chevroletor was not a favorite in the old Fantasy League. As a stock mainline, it only had a 33% winning rate. It wasn't entered often and lost even more. Off-the-shelf, it's a rather light car so even with faster axles it lacks in the potential when running down your standard hill drag strip.

For what it's worth, the Turbolence car is a much better performer with a very similar style and body shape. The Turbolence is metal/metal build and quickly dominated competition in the league (and that's without any special wheels). If you can find one of those castings and slap some FTEs on there, you'd have a force to reckon with.

I haven't had any luck with these high speed wheels

  • Like all HWs, the build quality is sporatic. But they do have nickel-plated axles and some of them move well. — GspeedR

Thank you all.

The only issue for tournament here where I live (Thailand) is Mattel's distributor being a primary sponsor. They set the rules up to their marketing purpose.  Last year, Tournament track was Downhill + loop + jump ....kinda promoting 'track star' casts (northern champ was Blue Rig Storm) .  This year, as of pre-season, it just a plain downhill 25 ft orange track. But this year they allow only hotwheels car with code  F xx - G xx joining.  That means most of famous 9x car and most of FTE could not join this year.  I guess this year those 09 F150s would dominate the tournament (they are Fxx code)   That's why I'm looking an alternative to the F-150 for my son (he does not like the truck :(  )

Have you tried the Diesel Boys?  Not the new orange ones, but the red, yellow, and/or green ones from the past releases.  Doube Demon and the new Mustang F/Cs can be good, too.

"taste like dirt" used to run diesel boys... fast ones

Yeah...Dieselboy is a good one for stock racing. Did really well in the Fantasy League, Top 30 car.

Here's the complete list of ranked stock Hot Wheels, varying years.
