pay off with the return lane is threefold...
when racing with young kids they "all" seem to "want" to send the cars back on the return lane....
a cardboard box and a hot wheels c clamp and you are gravity returning,
[don't let them "push" the cars]...they'll show off... I explain that the return lane is so everyone in the stands can check out the cars as they slowly roll by...
secondly, form a line for the losers so they take turns catching and returning... this is a good attention span expander rather than they just "hopefully" watching the race...winners attention spans are fine...
lastly, this keeps the little kids from running along the track to get their cars...as the cars are returned to the starter...

Gonna steal that one. Also. what do ya call those road pieces? Many years ago I had a Matchbox Build A Road set, but it's a long gone since the 70's. I'd like to find them.
The road pieces are for a few sets, but the majority came from a Hot Wheels "America's highway set" I picked it up about 10yrs ago in Pheonix at a Kmart that was going out of business.

#30 FOTF vs #16 Nightstalker 3 races to decide this...Nightstalker take the first by a hair...very close race. FOTF take the second by 1/4 car...then the last race had FOTF on top by a 1/4 car..Miss Scarlet top down and accelerator mashed to the floor. winner FOTF
#22 WCR vs #2 Sloppy Both races won by 1/2 a car...Paroled is motoring on.... winner Sloppy
#12 Traction vs #34 TLD This king of the looog wheelbase cars is...TLD by a bumper each race..Stretch is sidelined..winner TLD
#26 DVB vs #10 Enforcement another 3 races to find a winner...Enforcement take the first by about 1/4 car, the DVB by a bumper..very close race...the Car 10 squeaked out the win by 1/4 car....winner Enforcement

#31 JDC vs #31 TLD Car #31 take the first race by 1 car in the first race then by 1.5 in the second.... Buford T Justice was heard muttering "Sum B*tch" as he left the track.... winner TLD
#13 Fishtail vs #9 Enforcement The Matchbox met the end of his road as Enforcement motored to a 1/2 car win in the first then a full car in the second race... winner Enforcement
#3 Stroller vs #11 Traction Stroller wins the first by less than 1/2 a car...and the next two races were decided by the electronic finish line super close racing...but in the end the Tahoe came out on top by a hair each time. ....winner Traction
#7 Team HF vs #23 Rally Case Carl wins the first by 1/2 car, and then comes from behind to win the second by 1/4 car...winner Team HF

TLD jumped out to a lead at the start, but Carl was inhot pursuit and came around TLD about the final foot of race track to win each race by 1/4 car or less...very tight racing! .... winner and Michigan's Top Cop...TEAM HALF FAST
Ok race fans some familiar faces in the Robber vs Cop showdown....
Winner in 2 races by 1/2 car the first time and 1/4 the second race...adding to a long list of felony charges...including this most recent flee and elude charge...Car #10 Eforcement...left Team HF sucking smoke.
