Crash Test DUMMY
Well, on a complete impulse buy last night, I purchased a new crash racers figure 8 track on eBay. It was a great price and I've been wanting to get part of my home track transformed to open track. Still need to pick up a few adapters and a two lane 180 but the plan is in motion.
Wife is currently in the dark on this one so mums the word

Hopefully you paid less then $30 . that's what Wal-Mart sells them for. I'm going to wait till they go on sale for 1\2 price and pick up 2 more my self.
- I’ve been waiting for them to go on sale around here for close to a year:( — Banjo
- I have 5 sets so far, but would like 2-3 more, and I never see them on sale — dr_dodge
- Thanks for the heads up. — AbbyNormal
- and what do y'all do with the CT cars? — dr_dodge
- I just toss the cars that come with it. They are kinda junky and not worth even trying to mod. — JBlotner42
- @banjo Last time they went on sale was around Thanksgiving and Xmas. They sold out quick in my area(SW MO). — JBlotner42
- I bought a bunch when they went on sale. I have five new boxes left over. It might be fun to try and build a monster truck track or an open track straight track. — Midwest_Diecast_Raceway
- Thanks Jarrod — Banjo
Well I had a brain flash, or a slight stroke, in the garage today as I looked over my current track while thinking about the crash racers track. At that point I decided that I needed to strip the whole thing down and start fresh. I'm going to reimagine what could happen on a 2ft x 4ft piece of plywood.
Three levels for sure, maybe four, have to see how it goes. What I have was cobbled together as I expanded it as my interest in die cast racing increased. This I will purpose build for testing cars and running races between cars. Hell it may even involve paint before its done. I'll regret this briefly no doubt, but the end result should be fun.
- Hey, you could even do something similar to what Widowmaker Run is doing recently... — ManiacMotorsports

I have an idea for a member of my racing team:
Crash Test Bandicoot
- You know - “Crash….” Followed by about anything is gonna be great — AbbyNormal
- Yeah, you know Crash Bandicoot, right? Well, that character of mine is entirely based off of him — lacuevadiecastracing
Well two days in to the project and I'm embracing the idea of if it's worth doing it's worth over doing it. I bought a second crash racer set so I can have 4 layers of racing. Going vertical
Oh dang
As I built up this structure my only experience with track was standard orange track. So that was my vision as I built it. I learned yesterday that Crash Racer track in general, and specifically this figure 8 track I have, are not at all like orange track (of course). Going to be some major tweaks and cars will need to be cookin' speed wise when they move onto the Crash Racer section. So this will have to be a fast track on the top section before hitting open track.
I've got at least a week before I get any 3D printed parts from Slanman and SpoolHeads. So plenty of time to fret and mull it over.
- Looking really great, what overall length are you thinking of — RalphsRacers
- My single lane track that wove back and forth was about 15ft. Here I hope to add 1 or 2 more layers so maybe 20 to 25 feet long — AbbyNormal
- the crash racer stuff is a unique bird. it's so soft/flexy it's annoying, good luck! — dr_dodge
Work continues as I wait for 3D printed parts - These parts are 2 lane banked 180 turns - crossover - orange track to Ceash Racers - and a couple of start gates. It's a major upgrade as I want to see my cars run on both orange track and open track. Plus being able to run 2 cars and 4 cars would be neat.
Now that I've got things basically running I'm going to ponder opening the other Crash Racer box and move the transition to CR up one level. If you are morbidly interested here is a video of todays mayhem in the garage.
- Curious. If you secure the track and turns to the structure would that allow the second car to perform. — alva1370
- I take it back, that’s pretty solid. — alva1370
- These are just rough tests - I’m waiting for actual parts before bolting and bracing. I’m just thrilled cars are going down. — AbbyNormal
- it does take a bit of tuning, looking good — dr_dodge
- Looks great so far! — JBlotner42

- This looks great! — Midwest_Diecast_Raceway
Hey thanks for all your comments. I'm just happy that it looks like I can get CR track to work on a quarter sheet of plywood. However I was not happy that the structure obscured much of the action. So I took a few pics to record how things were and then tore it apart.
Now my work area is a construction mess on top of the regular mess, and sawdust is everywhere. Pretty sure sawdust and Hot Wheels is not a good mix. I have though rebuilt the frame much lighter and will post something in a couple days. Plus Home Depot had white Christmas lights on sale.
Here is a snap of the current state - its a work in progress. Gonna be a long week or so as I wait for 3D parts.
- All progress! Great! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
- Watching all these builds I’m starting to get the itch. — alva1370
- looking good! — dr_dodge
Well all the 3D parts are in the mail to arrive on Monday. The bottom sections of the track are fairly stable and somewhat tuned. Now just need to drop in 2 lanes orange track and 180's. Here is a video
And the fun begins! (Again).
