Do you need to record a winner for every stop in a race series?

When you're organizing/hosting a race series where there are multiple tracks, do you prefer to have winner recorded for each stop in the series? Or is just having one overall winner/champ enough?

I've been chipping away at making a race management system for the site and it will support single races and a race series. Recording the winners is obviously a big part of the thing but I'm not 100% sure that there needs to be a winner declared for each stop in a series...dunno...

When I ran a series few years ago, I did track wins per track but at the end of the day, whoever won the series at large was the champion. There are usually points involved in a series so that a single winner can be declared at the end. So while those wins per stop are important to the overall math, they really don't (or shouldn't) contribute to a racer's statistics. You winning race 3 out of 5 is great but recording that as a win kinda just pads your stats, really. Or at least it kinda feels that way.

I'm trying to keep the new system simple but questions like this have the potential to complicate things. I'm not opposed to figuring out a solution for it but I want to make sure it's a problem that needs solved in the first place.

If you're a host that has done a series in the past - or thinking of doing one - I'd like to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Discussion

I have been asked in one of my series to reward the winner of each leg but there wasn't an option to do so. There are a lot of people out here waiting for their first win and if it should happen to come on one leg of a series I think they should be acknowledged. That being said I have no idea how much time it would take for you to arrange that so I guess it depends on the effort it takes as to whether it's worth it or not.

  • Good points. Thanks for the insight. I’m happy to try and make it work however would be best for folks. Just wanna see if there’s any consensus. — redlinederby

I think that maybe something like an automatic #1 qualifying spot for the next leg, or a bye in the first round if there's an uneven number of cars, would perhaps be a good idea. Keeping it simple like that may appeal to more racers, hosts, and the winner of the previous leg is acknowledged yet again.

  • How the winning a leg of a series impacts the bracket/placements/byes/etc will be up to the hosts themselves. Any future system will not dictate how to run a race, it will simply offer better management for entries and race results. — redlinederby
  • What Brian is asking is about rewarding winners of a stage of the race in the standings. — BlueLineRacing
