Factory Wars {A NEW MAIL-IN}
Im just going to hope for the best cause I don't have the ability to test cars on a long track.
Ok, guys I'm working on my team and still learning so any help is appreciated. From what I gather you are going to need some weight in the back to get the car rolling down the hill but not so much weight that the car is too heavy and slows on the straight, correct?
I started tuning on the Mustang I plan to race first. I plan to add weight and convert it to FTE2's. I did the roll out test and it rolled well. I added some modelling clay and retested and the roll out distance was shorter. That is to be expected from the extra weight but it should be faster on an actual full race track, right?
The FTE2's going on the Mustang are coming from a Datsun 510. I am considering putting the FTE's from the Triumph to see how it does. It runs side by side with the Triumph with them both stock.
I was thinking about painting all of my cars the same color
I've got a team color. No cars have qualified for challenges yet, but it's Greek Tile.
McJiggles, would you mind sending me written specs on the track. My system still relies on a dial-up server, so right now I am running on 41.2 Kpbs, the best I get is 46 Kbps, makes it virtually impossible to download videos, oh how I wish I could. Hopefully somewhere along the way I can update to DSL or some of the other options, but for now, stuck with the old fashioned dial up modem.
Glad to see that the original rules are still in place, have a GM, Ford, and Mopar in work now, still thinking on the foriegn and other, but will be all ready when time to ship out. Going to be a FUN one!!!!
.
I think I am going to go with neon green and black.
If you guys don't mind go back a page and help me out with my questions. My post was the last one on the page.

Frankly Keith I would like to help answer your questions but I've been havin the same questions, I've tried to answer the question and I've come to two contradictory answers. See the initial instinct tells me that heavier objects should fall quicker, but then I also feel that heavier objects have more inertia which makes them harder to get going, but also harder to stop. In the delivery series at our track we saw the armored truck start way behind the others with a slow start and then speed past them in the straight. Once they obtain their max speed the weight makes it harder for them to be stopped my friction. It seems to me that lighter cars start off faster but end up losing the race. This isn't always true though, every car is different and for me I build a car and then play around with the weight to get the best results.

That would be an interesting test. Since the things are mass produced the quality from one car to another can vary a lot. So for that reason things might work better, but it may not be the rule. If somebody else did the exact same thing they might get different results.
I'm no expert for sure so these answers are really just my best guesses.
Thanks for the input. I ended up breaking most of the clay out of the car just messing with it. That stuff seems like it would break, make dust, and grit up the axles when used for weight. Running it without the weight seemed about the same as with it. Sometimes I wonder if we are just fooling ourselves trying to make them faster.
As for the Triumph/Datsun experiment the wheels are the difference. Whichever one has the FTE's wins by half a car length.

There must be something to that

You need a different kind of clay. The kind they have in the crafts or kids crafts isle at Wal Mart. The kind I got came with four or five sticks of colors. It resembles a bulky box of crayons.
I'm having a tough time building 5 fast and equal cars...

I suggest strapping a firecracker to the back of it
