Hot Wheels and Hot Dogs!

What a day of racing we had today here in Austin, Texas...overcast skies with occasional rain, cool breeze and 58 cars to race...twice!

The tracks!

First I have to give a big big thanks to EconoCarl and Variation Jason for making their long drives to help me out and be part of the racing fun, I would probably still be out there racing if I had been by myself...or laying on my back in pain.

17 Teams and 58 cars...here is the full racing field

We started the day with the 50' track. I had come up with the brackets to race, getting brackets where no one races a team mate, no racer who had a bye run last time got one this time or raced against the same team in the first round was some work. But my work paid off. The first heats went off pretty well, had to do some modifications to a few lowrider cars who were scrapin' frame going down the track. There was a good mix of blowouts and close races, with a handful going to three runs in the Heats. Then we got to the final 8 right at High Noon...so we had to crack open some of Texas' finest brews!

The final 8 was pretty different from the California round, with over half the field being different cars.

Some really close races in the final rounds and a pretty different turn out...well except for EconoCarl who stayed on top with a scorching fast Chrysler 300. Two matching Lotus Elise FTE's in second and third for Beach Bum Racing and newcomer Jamaharv...nice jobs! The Ford Anglia was running super fast, I managed to get one car in the field, with the Triumph (know to be known as Mr. Squirrely) Ferrari 458 and Nighstalker rounding out the top 8 with the only non-FTE entry.
Now it must be told that R&S racing's Triumph on it's first run down the track, come off the track and took out the opponents car half way down the straightaway! It was zig-zaggin' all over the track all day...but still a strong runner!

Then we took a small break, tested some cars and cooked up some dogs!

Then we took on the 25' track. Now the three of us decided to go ahead and run the same brackets as the 50' to get a good comparison between the two tracks. Some racers might be upset with this layout, I hope no one takes offense...hell none of my cars made into the final 8 on my home track!

I would say about 70% of the races were almost identical to the 50' track, but there were some upsets and some really really close races in the Heats. The 25' track racing went much faster and we were down to our final 8 quickly.

Little different line up this time with Variation Jason and R&S racing getting in the final 8.

Some really good racing here with similar outcome as the 50' with the top 4 not changing...folks these are some fast cars!
So Variation Jason rolled in with 5th place, R&S in 6th and Nightstalker and Beach Bum Racing swapping out 7th and 8th.

What a great day, good racing, good guys and good beers! Here is the motley crew from today...

Great job guys! Once again, only non-FTE in the top 8?!? And it seems like everyone had better develop a "fear" of Carl's 300c...congrats man!

I felt an overwhelming amount of joy to see my matchbox take a few cars to the cleaners in this tournament (Thats right TLD, your astro funk lost to a matchbox )! Too bad it couldn't win its bracket, but it looked like it had a shot on the short track!

Thanks for the racing guys! Great job posting the results and setting everything up. Congratulations to the winners!

There were two non-FTE's in the 25' final 8, the RetroActive and Ashpalt Assault!

WorpeX, that Matchbox was a good runner...nice to mix up the Hot Wheels now and again.

Crap! I had my Camaro's mixed up. You're lucky TLD! Looks like it was a Shell Shock it beat.

Not that lucky.

Well done! Good job with the racing. I had a feeling new cars would be in the final eight. There was so much close racing in California.

I had a great time in the Capital City today. That Jobe sure cooks up a real good hot-dog! I even got to meet Variation Jason. Thanks for letting me hang out with y'all today.

That Chrysler 300 is quick but Jamaharv's Lotus gave it a good run for it's money on he 25ft track, forcing a third run.

GsR, the Econoline's miles per gallon isn't all that good although it's hard to beat it for smiles per gallon!
