Featherweight Challenge

Smitty has put down a challenge over on the Customizing and Mods forum. Just in case the 'racers' out there don't read all of the forum catagories I'm cross posting it here.

Is there anybody out there up for a run-whacha-brung "Featherweight Challenge"? A mail-in race for lightweight cars? I know the holidays are a busy time, but how about a little discussion now and maybe a race toward the end of January or February? Whadaya think?

HOW ABOUT AN UNDER 35 GRAM "LIGHTWEIGHT CLASS"..
..... MINIMUM ALTERATION ; BODY OFF, WITH ; 1. WHEEL CHANGE, ...OR... 2. MODDIFIED CASTING... CHOP, CHANNEL, RE-ARCH WHEEL WELLS, REMOVE HOOD OR ROOF, ETC.... OR ... 3. CHANGE ENGINE, GRILL, GLASS, ETC.....
.... ALSO... UNLIKE GRAMMAH IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE MY IDEA TO BE A GOOD IDEA ! SO, POST ANY INPUT OR P.M. ME...
..... I AGREE WITH CARL, SEEMS LIKE AFTER THE H.D.S. ENDS MIGHT BE JUST RIGHT TO SQUEEZE IN THE LIGHTWEIGHTS...
....I'LL CHECK WITH REDLINE DERBY ?, AUSTIN DIECAST DRAGS ?, FOR OPEN TRACK DATES...
... ALSO - LOOKING FOR HOST TRACK [S]...

I posted this on the other thread and moved it here in an effort to keep all of the discussion in a single thread:

Whoa Smitty!!!
At 35 grams everybody will send in a Ferrari Italia 458 FTE and it will be a Ferrari Challenge!
At 30 grams we might see some cars that otherwise would not be raced. Whadaya think?

Forgot about that one! Should FTE cars be banned altogether?

I dunno...You'd really narrow down your choices for featherweights if FTEs are banned. How about setting a maximum weight limit? I consider 35g to an average weight for a modern HW car, so maybe any car 34g or under?

Why? Cars from the Hardcore Downhill Series proved that FTE wheels aren't necessarily the way to go. Smitty had the top team and doesnt use them. My teams top car had one set of FTEs and two sets of regular wheels my 2nd best car that had some top 5 finishes had wheels from a Danicar.

THAT IS THE JOY OF RACING... HOW CAN I MAKE WEIGHT CLASS WITH THIS FAST CAR? MAYBE WITH A LEATHER GLOVE ON ONE HAND AND A BURRBITTED DRILL IN YOUR OTHER... LET THE ZINC DUST FLY

Here's a 'formula' for a featherweight HW car...

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Good point! Discussion is good. At 34g an entrant with a Ferrari will have to modify it, even if it's just a little. The priority is to get more racers/cars involved!

Good point #2! The difference I see with this class is that most of the cars will be at or near maximum weight, unlike the Hardcore Downhill Series. The weights in the HDS are all over the place, including mine, but there's fun in that too!

Should the holes be directional? To help with the intake and exhauting of air? Hmm!
