Ferrari's' beater....RLD or vintage ?

Hi you all

A hot wheels tournament in my town started, it's 25' orange track downhill (7' tall) and this year is 'Open class'

My son went to the tournament with his favorite yellow Chevroletor and you could guest. He got knocked out really quick in 2nd round.  Most of opponents are F150, V16, Arachnoid, F40, Testarossa. Chevroletor had no chance against them.  Then, I bought him a yellow F40.  This time, he could got into final 8. My son was very happy about it.

Last week, there was a guy joining with his vintage hotwheels (white cartoonish-look F1 style with clear plastic dome in the back and redline wheels)   In last 8, there were 3 F40 (red, yellow, gold), 2 Testarossa (both black), 1 blue shadow jet, 1 black rescue ranger and that white vintage cartoonish-F1 car.   Surprisingly, the vintage cartoonish-F1 car won the tournament. It beat all Ferraris and the rest by at least 2 car-length !!  that's super fast.

I tried to google more information about this vintage cartoonish-F1 with clear plastic dome in the back but have no clue.  Do you guy here have any clue on this vintage hotwheels?

BTW, Is there any other hotwheels model that could beat Testarossa by 2 car-length ? Noodlehead ?

The car that comes to mind when you say it has a bubble top is the Beatnik Bandit...

But, in it's stock configuration, it isn't going to be that fast...but, if it was modified  by adding weight and installing some good rolling wheels (fte's), then it might take out those cars!

  • redlines that let you change the tires are very low friction, inside the wheel are plastic domes on both surfaces, some r independent susp. — model40fan
  • Redline wheels are much better than FTEs..... — KandORacing

It's not Beatnik though.  The front side is wedge shape similar to vintage Formula 5000 redline but there is a clear plastic dome in the back ( approx 1/3" diameter in size) I think that guy has 2 versions of this car.  One is white and another is light pink.

After a few days google/ebay aorund .....still have no clue.

BTW, Is there other stock hotwheels model that could beat stock Testarossa by 2 car-length ?

Other vintage hot wheels with domes are:  silhouette and bubble gunner.  Based on your description I'm guessing the second.  It has a front wing

Pro-Circuit Funny Cars (if F/Cs count as "stock" at this place) might be able to do it, if you can get a good one.  Side Kicks can also be fast, along with some F40s--especially the red tri-blade (3-spoke) wheels.  I might even try a Peterbilt Oil Tanker if you can get one in a good condition, given how heavy they are and how steep this track must be.  There is also a California Customs Sol-Aire I know of that would probably kill most any other HW Stock car, but they are kind of hard to find, and I know of somebody else who has a slow one.

I have to ask--do you know if this place allows mail-ins?

?Bingo! ....it's a Bubble Gunner

Is there any chance that newer model car to beat it? or need to go for vintage redlines like noodlehead, twinmill (but it's very $$$ )

PS. FOTF, no mail-in though.

  • if you are gonna buy redlines, buy 1st generation, 2nd gen= ok, 3rd are just bw with red stripes... — model40fan
  • Noodle Heads and Side Kicks are the best, IF they are in good shape. — KandORacing
  • Get you a good Pro Circuit series King Kenny. Much cheaper than a Redline and can be very fast. — KandORacing
