Find Your Diecast Car Net Worth

LottaSpeedRacing Monday, 3/11/2024

For all of you who like to collect as well as race, here is a sweet website to use to find out how much your cars acually total up to.

You can see different mainline years, redliners, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, etc!

Halls Guide

This doesn't look too acurate, seeing as how many people buy their cars for 1-2 dollars, and the lowest price is $2, well...

(Keep in mind, most of these prices are for cars in mint condition)

If the toy stores and shops in my area are any indication, most common mainlines seem to sell for $4 regardless of their age. Just the other night I saw a place that had cars anywhere from 2009-2023, each marked $3.99 - not sure if they actually sell or not but it seems the going rate.

That $2.00 price point seems to me the minimum that I see, which is essentially getting your money back, right? If your collection is mostly common mainlines (like mine) then at worst it's worth what you paid for it. At best, it's maybe like 2.5x in value.

I don't fancy myself a collector but as I see more and more of the cars I buy just end up in storage totes and bins rarely to be seen, I often start to wonder if it's worth cashing out just to free up the space...but I'm not that hard up for space yet!

Simple Truth...

They are only ever worth what someone else will pay for them...

If I can find someone to buy my cars or as much as their listed on this website, I'm making about four times more than I paid.

Now. Where am I going to find someone like that?

  • Well, the Halls Guide mainline shows the price for mint condition cars, something like a Quality Malfunction is something to ask to more of a private buyer. And I REALLY would not take it out. Keep it mint. — LottaSpeedRacing
  • I bought it loose at jcar — dr_dodge
  • Some people would say it’s worth nothing…others would say it’s got some value…if it’s some kinda chase car you can almost bet it’s gonna have some good assumed value…as a fantasy casting…it’ll be a very niche (and I mean VERY small) collector base who’s into those. I’ve come across people who collect “miss-hits”, “tire errors”, “tampo errors”, but those people only collect if it’s still on card. At best I’d say you’ve got something that will make a nice mailin car for someone’s next tournament — Crazy_Canuck
  • If it is out of it's package, I guess there can still be no proof that you did that on purpose. — LottaSpeedRacing
