Flue question.
Really really off topic.
I just clean out the inside of our fire place insert and I don't know wether the flue is open or closed. We are never going to use it, so which way does should the flue control thingy be. Pushed in or pulled out to close the flue?.....just thought one of you guys might know......

paper bags usually smokes & smolders quite nicely.
That sounds reasonable.///thanks.
You didnt get your flue shot?
The "flapper' is right at the top of the fire box. So grab a flash light, stick your head in the fire box and look up. DO NOT have anyone open or close the flue while you are dong this - soot/debries will fall on you. If you couldnt tell the first time - change the handle position - look again.

Im gonna guess Push it in it closes. Pull it out it opens. You should be able to see it as mentioned before.

It's a crooked thing but I will try again tomorrow.....Thanks guys....
I'm no fireplace expert, but...you could carefully place a small, smoldering piece of paper in the fireplace and watch to see if the smoke goes up the chimney. IIRC, the paper from brown paper bags usually smokes & smolders quite nicely.
