Gasser Challenge Discussion

Had to go in a new direction due to the weight limit, but I'll have something to show by the end of the week. I think I might actually get a day off next week!

cutting up hot wheels on a day off is really a vacation day...

I'll host a Gasser race.

How long do I have to make them before the race?

How much time do you need? I would like to wait until after the Featherweight Challenge to start a new series (and it's looking like Gasser Wars will become a series).

Will I need a dremel too?

No.

To take them apart a 3/16 drill bit will work on the rivits underneath.

The photo has a 1/16 drill bit. It works as a guide, then you can switch to a 3/16. Some people just use the one.

Then you can just snip the little holders that keep the wheels in.

I.M.O. the base to body is loaded [pinched], when the drill bit penetrates the rivit head it releases the load, and your bit only has to cut the base because the pin pulled away with the rivit release... the bit will dig into the base HARD, it will spin the car in your hand... i cut a slot into the end of a 4"x4", i set the car in the slot to drill...as you get close to the release point use the drill in spurts so the when it grabs it won't have as much momentum... notice t.l.d.'s glove [good idea]

as i am cutting into another sacrificial lamb, i noticed i was going to drill the rivits out of a car that i had already used the base from.... are we restricted to different bases ? ... not many '20's and '30's bumpered bases...
