Good clearcoat for Painters Touch 2x

ManiacMotorsports Friday, 3/13/2026

I hadn't used clearcoat any of my cars for a year and a half because I've had bad luck with cracking paint. I generally use Rust-Oleum Painters Touch rattle cans for my paint, and recently I discovered that this clearcoat works very well with them:

It was given to me awhile ago by friends, but I didn't try it until now. It seems to work great, even in the 35-40 degree weather in the garage. I'm going to be using it going forward.

Just thought I'd share it.

I second this recommendation. Aleene's is what I've used for the last 2 years (when I bother to clearcoat), and it works well!

Nice, I use Rustolem but it has to be done in many layers as too much spray will crack Tamaya Paints.

thanks for sharing...

sweet will be looking for that!

Nice. I stopped clear coating because of the cracking. Gonna try this. Thanks!

I'm going to have to go find this. I have had to re-do quite a few paint jobs due to cracking and peeling.
