HW Trophy Case

iowastockcars Thursday, 5/31/2012

I built this over the winter when we had a nice warm December in Iowa.

It holds our trophies that we have won the last two years and our fastest cars. The cars on top of the trophies earned those trophies for being the fastest car in their class for the entire year.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

The final part is getting some clear doors on it.

Lookin' good!
And WOW, over 200 "fastest cars"!

over 200 "fastest cars"!

I've got the same problem...'till I have to race somebody else's cars.

So what are the top 20 fastest cars...are these car designs really fast, or was it just a fluke in the way they were made? For an example, I've bought 2 identical cars but they run totally different...what makes one faster than the other...I don't know. But it would be interesting to see if there is something that the collective here could verify on these winning cars. Just a thought.

Preacher,
You should start a thread on this topic.

The million dollar question. My 20 fastest cars are going to be different than others.

I think everyone can point to certain cars that typically are fast but you will still have the duds from that identical car. Then on the other hand, you run into those exceptions on cars that typically are not fast, but you find that one exception. You just never know until you race them.

Then you have to factor in the tracks. A car may dominate on one track and then performs differently on another. My home "test" track shows me the good rollers as its not a very high starting gate and runs maybe 20-25 feet. We race them for points and trophies on a 50 footer with a long straightaway. Typically the cars that perform well on my track do well on the league track, but not always as some just don't have enough to win consistently on that track.

Very nice display shelf. Gotta have the doors to keep the dust off.
I was recently asked by my friend Daniel, "what makes a fast Hot Wheel", and it wasn't the easiest question to answer. It does seem like there are some consistencies, like all-metal Ferrari's are usually pretty fast, but like Iowa says two identical cars can preform quite differently.
Someone should start a thread revisiting the question "what makes a fast car" and even post some pics of some of their fastest cars.
