Middleweight Challenge II (Feb 9 Series Start)
Yes! The cream is rising to the top!
Here we go.... good luck Jim
So I just took a few minutes to check point totals on the final eight cars. Definitely a few surprises. That being said, here's the results for Round 4.
#1 wins the first race by 1 car length, and the second by 1/2 car length.
in the first race #1 grabbed the early lead right out of the gate and and pushed it to a car length by the 12 ft. mark of the track. Second race was much closer until the last 2 ft or so with the #1 pulling away.
#66 wins the first race by a nose, but, #45 wins the second race by less than a nose, and the third race by 1/2 car length.
#66 had the early lead in all three races and managed to squeak out the first one by a slim margin. The second race was a come from behind win by the #45 by even less of a margin, a half nose. We're talking about 1/8"! Third and final race was also a come from behind win for the #45 as he learned his lesson by winning by a half car length.
#23 wins the first race by a nose, and the second race by 1/3 car length.
Both cars left the gate in each race side by side, but the #23 pulled away in the last 3 to 4 ft. of track for the wins.
#9 wins the first race by 1/4 car length, and the second race by 1/4 car length.
The #9 car had a decent start in both races and barely held on for the win. On a longer track the charging from behind #41 would have pulled out the win I think.
Final four matchups
#1 vs #45

#23 vs #9 Father & Son

Revised bracket. Sorry for the quality. Don't know what happened.

Final two races.
#45 wins the first race by 1/2 nose, and the second race by 1/2 nose.
Both cars left the gate evenly and it was neck and neck almost to the end. The 45 squeaked out the victory at the last second. My son couldn't believe how close it was. Again, we're talking about 1/8" between the two cars at the finish line. Can't get any closer than that!
#9 had an easier first race, winning by 1/2 car length. Second race was close with the #23 trying to inch ahead but losing by a nose.
FINAL MATCHUP
#45 vs #9

Good luck Gentlemen!
Drum roll please!
And the Winner of the Middleweight Challenge II, Massachusetts Event, is.......
#45, Traction Event's 1980Corvette!
It took two races to determine the winner, and again, both were very close. The #9 car actually started with a very slight lead but just couldn't hold on, with the Vette sneaking by at the very end.
Congrats to TE on the Win, and to FOTF on finishing 2nd.
Don't know if anyone else does it, but I ran #1 and #23 for 3rd and 4th place.
#23 had the lead out of the gate and held onto it for a 1/2 car victory in the first race.
However, #1 took the 2nd and 3rd races by a nose to finish 3rd. Both races were close with the #23 in front, but the #1 managed to make up the difference in the last couple of feet.
Being my first time at hosting a race I have to say I had a great time. You guys build some very awesome cars and I'm hoping I was able to learn a few things. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
Can't wait for the Drag Cars to get here.
Final bracket.

Updated all points, some big jumps from this weeks racing in MA
Nice job on the race coverage! I feel like I was there.
Congratulations to Traction Event! I think the Corvette just may leap frog JDC442 F40 in the overall standings (almost). Makin' moves!
Nice! Mixing things up a bit -none of the top three cars made the finals. I knew that #9 Spiderman would show up eventually!
Way to take Massachusetts Traction!!
I knew that #9 Spiderman would show up eventually!
If I remember correctly that thing is a crazy squirrel that fish tails all the way down the track. I wonder if it could just straighten out if it would be faster...or maybe slower.

I can honestly say I only remember one car that was all over the track, and it wasn't #9. He looked to be running very straight.
Well I can say I did not see that coming...I mean I always hope, but I figured the top dogs would continue their run up top. TLD said it, crazy. Sweet unexpected victory.
Thanks for hosting and the race reporting was spot on.
All riiiiiight! Finally, I did something around here worth mentioning (and just as important, took out my dad with Spiderman again)!
Congratulations to Traction Event and congrats to the Spidermobile--I'm very proud of him. As for the fishtailing (and slower speeds), his axles probably weren't straight, or he just had the worst of the opposition and was nervous.
Thanks for the hosting, Bill!
