Modded vs Stock

Preacher Sunday, 7/29/2012

A thought just came to my mind after seeing some "Modded" cars with awesome paint jobs...are they always faster than your fastest stock cars? At this point in my life with HW's, (since I'm not a good painter) I'm after speed. But by the time I take a car apart and glue it all back together again...add some weights, can I be sure it will be faster, or is this just a trial and error thing? Has anyone here done some before and after runs to show the difference in their speed and times?

yup, sometimes faster.........sometimes not.

The only time I can guarantee myself sucess in making it faster is by starting with one that has junk/bent wheels.

When building cars with a weight limit, like in the Featherweight Series. I think maybe 1 in 4 of my customs go faster. It's dissapointing, but I pretty much expect it now.

I have to agree with tastelikedirt for the featherweights. It's a lot of work trying to get a modded lightweight to equal a fast stock lightweight. If racing in heavier class, say 112 grams (4oz), the modded cars should dominate.

The maddening thing is, taking a proven fast car, a Lotus or Ferrari 458 for example. Then putting on some FTE's and doing some other minor things to improve performance. Then when you get it all back together, it can't beat the stocker version that you have lying around.

tEST test test/ My #2 just beat my #1 velle last night and now ties my fastest car. Now you would think if i did the same thing to my other velle it would take the top seat again....

or will it? never know

How will the do on different tracks? Your #2 my best the #1 everywhere else.

I have to say one of the discouraging things about modding is when they dont go faster than a stock car. I'd spend good time trying to mod a car with tires, weight, etc only to have it be beat by some stock car. It was frustrating....I mean, building and testing is part of the fun but it's also time consuming. I find it very hard to test mod cars mid-build.

yes and yes
