NASCAR JLH Krafts Truck Racing Series Qualifying: Martinsville 2020 - sub4ra youtube

 Review & Full Results

 Hi all!

Well the long awaited first race qualifying for the JLH Truck Series is here!

What a session it was!

Many a heartache, many a broken dream, through to Yay, I got a time, woohoo to make the top 36, and then the elite fighting for pole! Congrats to Dragon Claw Racing & Karlee K! Pole Position!  Special mention to Stu Padasso of F.P.D Racing, driving a D100, who was super quick, well done! Hard luck to get pipped for pole late in the session!

Where to start?! The Martinsville Track, unlike most of the other circuits, is dominated by orange track and two very tight corners leading onto a very short piece of fat track. The sight of that would have had some builders going around the bend with their choice of casting for this race! Long and / or wide trucks were not the go here! F150’s, Tacomas, Solid Muscles, Hyper Trucks, in general figured prominently in the DNF list!  I’m sure when the Series hits the wider tracks these cars should get more competitive! But some big names hit the DNF list, or did not qualify!

Track sign maintenance staff walked off the job half way through the session, over worked, under paid, and the Boss wasn’t handing out free ‘Dews! And of course having to re install so many track signs!

Team Results: In the top 20 some great results achieved by Dragon Claw and Red Pill Racing, 100 Proof Racing, with two absolute flyers, F.P.D certainly showing some speed too! Po’Boy with 3 trucks right up the list, Cutrock’R not far behind. Key West had some disappointment with their team, but Capt Tony shone thru in there to qual 13th! Flips Racing got in at 14th. Madness Motorsports, well done, this Rooster has wings! Phase 4 Customs made 18th, with a Johnny Lightning Studebaker, great to see! Rounding out the Top 20 is Southern Most Graphite, after many drives Irish Kevin finally got his act together! The drinks are on him!

Congrats to all who made the 36 starting positions! This included the pair of Gen X Vintage Racing (Great Sponsor!) and many first timers on sub4ra,  including HSL Motorsports, Uncle Elvis, Rundle’s Customs, Pl?MO SF, JX4 and Jefe Customs. Good luck out there!

But it is tough to just miss the cut! Special mentions here to and Mike James and Peter Bee. Knocking on the door, but can’t get in this time. (Almost like a covid thing?!)

Many thanks to those that sponsor this event JLH Krafts, D.R.R. Peg Hunt Pit Stop and for this race, Filipiak Performance Diecast.

Finally I have attached the full results of qualifying. I have put this together, in association with Po’Boy Racing. We have collated the data from the footage and taken as much care as possible in recording and providing this data for the competitors and viewers. Cross referenced and corrected where necessary. Should you find any error, or can assist with any missing data, please contact me. Big thanks again to Po’Boy for his collaboration. Thanks sub4ra, "For getting it on!"

All the best for the race!

Cheers, Marc D

I qualified 21st, just outside the top 20. Go Mr. Pibb. Will be cheering with an ice cold Dr. Pepper

  • Great build, and your starting position gives you a great shot at it! Good luck! — CutRock_R_Marc_D

The trucks to watch, right here: the two truck team of Gen-X Vintage Racing: "Psychedelic Rose" (#1) driven by Miscreants and "Special Edition" (#2) driven by Kit Kayem.

  • And they look good! Cheers! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • Kit, what make & castings are those two? I would like to update the spreadsheet missing information. Thank you. — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • That's a great question. They were the Lionel racing trucks. They're actually the exact same body, but one was labeled a Ford and the other a Toyota. Let me find the actual correct info. — GenX_VintageRacing
  • Rather, one was a Toyota and one was a Chevy. Both were from the NASCAR Authentics line and the Toyota one was Greg Biffle's truck. I can't find the Chevy one's info. — GenX_VintageRacing
  • I see my truck info is empty as well, it is a hot wheels custom 69 chevy — Mayfield41
  • Oh thank you Mayfield. It will be updated. Cheers — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • Love the DRR car! — redlinederby

Thanks for the results and the shoutout! Really good work on the spreadsheet. I knew 1 car was 40th but didn't realize the other that had a time was still top 50. I guess I'll have to wait till the next race.

Take care and see ya at the races!

  • Cheer Peter, all the best! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • Oh, Peter, one question, to update the info what make and castings are your team cars? Cheers mate! — CutRock_R_Marc_D

Just got one of my trucks in by the skin of my teeth. The rest, well, I'm glad to know where my first mods compared to the established ADRC teams. Also, they're all Hot Wheels except Karl Whitehill's truck which is a generic Chinese casting.

  • Cheers HSL, Good luck out there! To me, I think it is important to involve all the entrants, from the fastest, to the not so fastest. I would think everone who had a run, would like to know how they went, compare against mates, look what castings work, etc. All the the aim of improving, and having fun. Cheers. Good luck out there! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
