New modder, datsun 620 4x4, dericed civic, and modded Super Van

Lockleaf Tuesday, 1/20/2015

Pretty new to modding.  I'm not a racer, but I do require that builds free roll without the tires binding.  These are all in progress, plenty of work still to do.

This is the datsun 620 I'm converting to 4x4 right now.  It's the 620 casting complete with chassis and then Offduty wheels axles and undercarriage with front bull bar attached to the bottom.

I'm looking for some better wheels.  I want less rim but still big tires.  Any suggestions?

This civic is just getting the racer effects removed and built to look more stock.  De tampoed, rims from a JL Honda accord.  Just needs some details painted in and finish removing tampo bits.

And this is my super van.  New casting, but identical to 70s casting.  Slammed to the ground, narrowed axles, tucked wheels.   rear wheels are from Poppa wheelie and fronts are the rears from a hurst olds wagon.  It took me quite a while to get these wheels fitted and free spinning.  I ended up having to grind out the inside of the body some, even after narrowing the chassis basically as much as possible.

I'm planning on building a basic light box to snap better pics soon.  Let me know what you think.

Welcome! Good looking stuff!

You should join us in a race. ..the Trans-Am race is coming up. Or there will be the Beater Truck race also...that looks to be a fun one!

I did a buildup of a Chevelle...if you search for 'Smokey's Chevelle', you'll find it. Get some fte wheels and send in a racer!

I like the Datsun pickup...my Sister had a '74 Datsun pickup as her first vehicle!

I actually already read over that build and a bunch of your other work.  You do great stuff. So does Model40.  I will think about the trans am.  I just picked up a COPO Camaro for ten cents over at the good will.  Maybe I will see about prepping that to race.

  • I just went and checked my small collection. I happen to have a snoopy with what appear to be fte wheels. did 2014 snoopy come with fte's? — Lockleaf
  • the fte's that you want are from 2005-06 — 72_Chevy_C10

  • Good donor cars are the Chrysler 300, VW Beetle, the '69 GTO, or the yellow GTX — 72_Chevy_C10

Welcome to the site, glad you stumbled across and decided to share. Diggin' that monster Datsun!

If you're already taking cars apart then you're half way to racing already! Just keep hanging out here and you'll learn how to turn your customs in great rollers too. Fast cars that also look sweet...that's nirvana.

"Less rim, big tires" hmmmm...

The off road Real Riders on last year's $uper treasure hunts "Toyota Tundra" & "Sandblaster" may be what you're looking for. The only trick is finding them on a vehicle without paying too much for just the tires. Can't remember off the top of my head but their may have been cars in other series with those same tires.

  • Or go for a bad carded or loose super TH on ebay. — delta6
