New Race Ideas

Preacher Thursday, 10/24/2013

At our monthly race, we choose a theme...this month its going to be "Nascars". We also have a grab bag race for 6 children in the group. The grab bags contain 2 cars each, and one of the cars the kids gets to keep and the other they race. The winner of this event gets all the other racers cars...the kids really like this. We also give out trophies to the 1st-3rd race winners...the trophy is a monthly thing you keep and bring back to the next race event. It's more of a bragging rights...and plus we try and keep the cost down.

I was wondering if anyone here had some more good race ideas that we could incorporate in our monthly race, so it doesn't get boring to those who come. We want this event to be fun & exciting for everyone...regardless of their age.

I always say run them backwards! Unless they tuned and tested for it already - it levels the playing field back to out of the box set up!

You could challenge them to race 2 cars and try to make them finish as close together as they can. In other words synchronized racing. Whoever finishes with the closest times wins. Maybe the cars can not be the same car. Or make them work as partners......your new finish line will make this easy....

Throw in a slow poke race. Last car to cross the finish line wins. If they don't cross it, they don't win though.

Pull out some old beaters or matchbox cars and win away! It really is cool to see cars that end up just stopping before the finish line. And it changes so often. We have some good cars that will just creep across the line but the next time down they may stop two of three cars short. What??

We do a rip and zip class each month where people can bring in two unopened cars based on a theme (red cars, matchbox, fire/rescue, creature cars, convertible, forgien, etc..) You just never know what you have opening up the cars. People seem to enjoy running up and opening their cars as well. We try to keep this with cars that can be found on the shelves and they have to be made within the last three years.

We did have a pinks race in the rip and zip class this year. My wife won that won and she came home with 20+ new cars to add to our cars. Just be careful with someone winning all the cars. Some of the kids just can't handle losing their cars, so we only do it once per year.

I think you have to have divisions. If you don't you make things unfair. People can start bringing in those metal/metal cars or the original FTE cars and the new cars found on the pegs can't touch them. Sepearte things out to make them fair for everyone.

Thank you for those good ideas...and the one thing we truly want is a FAIR race!
