On the bench
Jump to the bottom and share your weekly triumph or utter disaster that occurred on your workbench. Share the glory, the pain, the stupidity. WIP shots are best.
The Nissan Patrol is modded up nicely but not super happy on the weight distribution. The eval continues with a couple other candidates

Stick a fork in it, it’s done.
I finished these 2 this morning. The Javelin is a peg warmer in this area. This is a great looking casting, I recommend it. If you like floating axles you’re really gonna love this one. Her axles were so loose she went straight out of the package into surgery. A little JB Weld, a little weight and she’s doing much better. Bonus, I didn’t mess up the paint job.
The Camaro is heading to the 67 Camaro race. I struggled finding wheels for this casting and made many mistakes. If I could build her all over again (for the 5th time) I would do it different. Leaving the factory paint on her was smartest thing I did on this build. I need new colors.
That Camaro casting has a pretty hard to farm axel length...it's an exercise in how good can you polish those axels...and trust me...just when you think you've done a good job...ya get humbled...lol...I've got mad respect for those drag racers out there who have a tried and true technique for getting their drag racers to constantly put down winning times
- the old school wagons are tough, too covered fenders, narrow clearances, I swear some of the narrow rear ends, be better to use one wide tire...lol the fun of building! — dr_dodge
- I've built 2 camaros and both are slugs on track! I've polished, lubed, stripped, polished etc etc and I have a stock Honda I use for testing against. Over 6m both camaros are at least a car length behind (insert rather strong language) — EnZedRacing
- agreed... — Stoopid_Fish_Racing

- Looks good fun! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
I see you have some Tillamook sour cream... Is that what you are using for weights? Or maybe using it for lube? I've tried all the condiments for lube: ketchup, cream cheese, melted butter, pickle juice.... all with the same resultes. The wheels taste good, but they aint fast. So frustrating :)

Brick and Motor slowly closing in on weight and paint. The metal base had a pretty nice interior cast in including tool box and tools on passenger floor. Flattening that was a bit of a chore. Smoothing out the plastic body has been more involved than anticipated but strangely therapeutic and quite satisfying.
- I like it! — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
- That came out great. — alva1370
- Wow - that is some cool work. Super creative. — AbbyNormal
- looks good so far! — dr_dodge
If you haven't already played around with acrylic markers you should check them out. Did some simple surfboard art pretty quickly. I even goofed up one of the surfboards and then just clean that off with some alcohol. So it's usually pretty forgiving maybe getting a set is your Christmas present.
I'll add that I masked off the front and back and gave the artwork a light clear coat and it made them really pop.
- look nice — dr_dodge
- I picked some up recently. I love them — ManiacMotorsports
- Very nice! — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
- I'll haee to try those out, any brand preference ?? — Desert_Rat_Racing
Here is hopefully a helpful tip. The workbench can be a messy place as things progress and I've decided to protect my cars from that mess. So I've taken some old pieces of orange track cut them down and added some gummy silicon seal on the ends. So now my cars rest on these as they're being worked on or tweaked to ensure that none of the junk on the workbench gets into the innards.
.
- Great idea. I'm always using the plastic from the packages and whatever is handy. But this would save me lots of time. — LobotomyScam
- Nice. you could also use hot glue for the ends — ManiacMotorsports
- Yes - Hot glue is a better idea. And make them just a bit longer than you might otherwise do. — AbbyNormal
- That's a cool tip!! I know our cat likes to walk around my bench and cars do roll and cats will play.. — Desert_Rat_Racing

- Thats why I keep a roll of Bounty paper towels near my paints... Nooooooo !!!! LOL , On a serious note I have had some close calls with no damage to cars just my pride... — Desert_Rat_Racing

- Dr of Mad Creations!!! That is sick as Hell!!! Not only have you created a different style of Hotwheel, You created a Conversation piece, Christmas Tree Ornament, a very cool fidget car to just roll around the build table.. But most of all you gave everyone one more project to get busy on by inspiration from your builds to come up with that car deep inside our minds we have held on to thinking Nah, no one would believe what I just did... — Desert_Rat_Racing
Love the colour scheme!!
