Race Numbers

Most assume #3 for me is a Dale Earnhardt reference but my older brother had a Hotwheels Redline Ford Vicky that was dark blue with a #3 on the roof.     3 has always been my lucky # and the real Mr. Tesla - Nikola Tesla felt that #3 holds the key to unlocking nature & the universe....3 sided triangles....etc. etc.

Well it's a long story but here we go,

I’ve adopted 101 for my racing going forward. Why 101?

Its a special number for me - you see my favorite Uncle was a machinist and was one of the early guys in the 1960's to move to Numerical Control Programming. Or the digital control of machining equipment. He was very good at it and was called in to the very first space shuttle work as they fell behind on machining the critical heat tiles. He and many others worked in a large open area all of them writing  programming for the lathes. And like all programmers they swore constantly as they made mistakes or progress.

Being the space shuttle work there was a constant stream of dignitaries and congressman. The profanity finally got shutdown by complaints from visitors. So these programmers created a list of about 150 swear words and some very comical and certainly insulting comments. Then they could use these codes to banter 'freely' with each other as guests came and went. And well --- 101 was my favorite .... it was "You gotta be shittin' me."  Which is my frequent reaction as I watch my diecast cars racing down any great track.

  • Great story! — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
  • Thanks, he was a really great guy and considered him my 2nd dad. Helped him build a house in the Sierra Nevada foothills. He then paid for my first two years of college. — AbbyNormal
  • Dude, now we need a list of those numbers so we can put them up and still be family friendly. — SpyDude
  • Ha ha ha man I can tell you many of those were so offensive they even surprised me. And many referenced your mother - father - sister and sometimes all 3. I guess it would spice up the YouTube comments. — AbbyNormal

I use #67 because it's part of my race team name E-67 Diecast also the year I was born

I like to use my social security number or my date of birth.  That way I know which car is mine during a race.

I'm currently in a car #66 and want to make that number "mine," but I probably should enter more races because nobody knows me.

  • You may not enter a lot of races but I definitely know the name! — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
  • It's somewhat memorable lol — ManiacMotorsports
  • I'm like a hangaround for the toughest MC Club, the Satan's Helpers. Perhaps you have seen them in the greatest film ever made. — LobotomyScam

We can't forget Lily_The_Dog: her number was K-9.

I've used 3.14 whenever I can, but only if the decals fit on the car. Otherwise, there's a couple of 01's and 23's thrown in.

Probably I would go with 70, because it's year I was born.
