Thanks!, I narrowed it down to being an early '40s Ford (Maisto Knuckle Dragger, before pic is on page 3 of this thread). The base, front wheels and exhaust come from the HW's Greased Gremlin and the rear wheels from a HW's Back Slider. I chose to split the chassis rather than hog out the wheel wells to relocate the rear axle. May not ever do that again!

... the maisto is a very loose version of a 1932 Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Hudson, Essex, Reo etc....5 window coupe, probably not close enough to have to pay anyone any royalties...

I went backwards from '48 and figured '40 was getting very close. Is the double hinge - suicide door arrangement the key to '32's? It was hard to tell for me without the original hood/grill, but thanks for the follow up! Had to goggle Reo...

R E Olds who started Oldsmobile later! And I also learned that REO Speed Wagon took their name from an REO 1917 truck model. Not the Rock-n-Roll image I would have thought of, but a cool automotive reference/trivia question!

Surf Crate tear down...(I am getting a little better at drilling the rivets and a little body filler is already in place!)

hey, milt try tearing off a paper match, use the torn end as a paint brush... use engine paint sprayed onto a coated paper plate to dip the brush in, [dries in 15 minutes and is thick]...makes great bondo... bondo first, don't paint first and then decide it needs bondo

Smitty,

Thanks for the painting tips - I will definitely use them! But these holes are where the tab slots for the exhaust went in the doors. I found some Testor's Contour Putty that is still pliable - after 30 some years!!!
