Racers, since I'll be hosting the second half of this series. I thought I'd share the track layouts. My old set was 18.5ft overall I have now added 20in or 1 track section.

I hope your cars roll well this set up has over18 ft of flat with very little drop to get the cars moving
Low N Slow
• Overall length 20ft 2in
• Height of release point 9in
• Drop to transition 5in
• Transition 1ft 4in
• Flat 18ft 3in

Picking up the pace, my standard drop, but added one section of track.
Not Quite a ¼ mile
• Overall length 20ft 2in
• Height of release point 2ft
• Drop to transition 2ft 1in
• Transition 1ft 4in
• Flat 16ft 8in

Would surf crate be allowed in this race?

In my mind just about any car can be turned into a 'rat rod'.

Here is Wikipedia's definition: "A rat rod is a style of hot rod or custom car that, in most cases, imitates (or exaggerates) the early hot rods of the 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s. The style is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related "traditional" hot rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a hot rod from the same era.

Most rat rods appear "unfinished", regardless of their status, as only the vehicle's bare essentials are driven."

K&O - I also referenced what EconoCarl posted about Rat Rods. You should also goggle Rat Rod images, but model40fan set the year to be pre '49 for this series. Can you identify the body source of the Surf Crate? Looks like a Ford GT 40 to me, but that could be only the door source.

Here is the original design rendering - could be a an early 30s Ford body! Could change my plans for build #2!

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Can you give us a ruling model40fan?

I know what rat rods are, but like you said, Smitty made the rule that it has to be a pre-1949 body style. The problem is, I have no idea what Surf Crate is based off of, since the body is really chopped. I just figured he could tell me if it's allowed or not.
