Sand Dune Shake-n-Bake

As usual I cannot leave well enough alone and have preceded to rebuild the Great Dunes Bootcamp Simulator - Mark II. In the video I mention that I used 1/8inch aluminum - its actually 1/16inch material. Round two of semi-serious silliness in the shop.

I would add as you watch the video you might say well just pick the fastest car. But some of these will not meet the requirements of vehicle clearance.
finally, while all of these vehicles except one made it down the test run, there are a few that reliably crash and burn somewhere along the path.

The aluminum stiffeners appear to work a treat, good stuff!

All love for GTR, I've been a fan from the beginning. Folks can build for Shavano however testing on a close analogue at home can be tricky, I'm assuming. The host provides lots of help with advice and math, we see.

Your dry humour vibes well with my GenX sensibilities in the video! A fun watch!

  • Hey Chris let me sum up my approach here from my background as an electrical engineer, long long time ago. I was once told only a fool believes his simulation and only a fool does not simulate. It’s the usual live and learn with a big grain of salt. — AbbyNormal

Nice!

Very cool!

Yeah, good stuff!

Great way to keep busy and testing is important to find the right speed!

As for what to jump over? Think original! Electrical Engineer, hmm, easy, jump them through

a transmission tower!

Cheers

  • Well, that sounds pretty hard. I think I’ll start by jumping over a pile of resistors. — AbbyNormal

Great work!  Inspiring.

  • Step one identify the problem, step two imagine a solution, step three is ignore reality, step four is implement. Finally take a nap — AbbyNormal

make the "jump over space" changable

some suggestions, real fire, real water...lol

or just make replacable mini dioramas, that match the season, or event

you are as bad as me....need to build another track...blame it on testing...

but, in reality the fun is building something     lol

keep it up!

dr

  • Well, those are some great thoughts doctor Dodge I really like the way you think. Especially the whole jumping over fire thing. However, I do feel if we ever got together it would probably result in call to 911. — AbbyNormal
  • For our Junkyard Joust games, I experimented with primers on the front and rears of cars (.223) to spice things up. Mary said she could hear the Looney Tunes theme right before the "Bang!" and me yelling "Owww! !@#$%^&" — CanesBart

Looks great! Cars seem to do well on it!

  • Yeah, a couple looked darn fast — CanesBart
  • As I said it’s a crude simulation but I think it’s better than a flat drag tack. Some vehicles have stability issues getting thru the “dunes” and weight and balance are important. I feel stability is slightly more important than speed in this case. I’d rather finish 3rd or 4th than be DNF’ing. — AbbyNormal
  • maybe a zuru for the win? hhmmm... — dr_dodge

Great little track and the Chevy truck saves the day.

Final comments on this thread after just some cursory testing, some cars weighted some cars, not weighted . There are as you would expect many effects and variables from how much weight in the vehicle weight placement and wheelbase which mixes in with getting through the dunes or getting stuck in the dunes. The slope of the track also figures in too much slope and not enough weight and the vehicle can lose control - too much weight and not enough slope and you can get stuck in a trough.
Have fun out there and knock the sand off your shoes before going inside
