Smitty says...
"i have just converted a roll-up speedway's finishline for orange track... it only lets one flag raise per pass....nice...
i cut the center support from the base... then heated [candle] the base's corners and straightened the sides.... after cooling i heated and bent the sides out to form legs.. but lower to get 1.25 " of clearance... i screwed through these legs to a metal base.... trimmed the connector "slots" from the under side of the [2] 6" blue [high sides] track sections but only where they sit on the steel....glued them to the steel...
now orange track can be connected at either end..."

And that's how you do it, my friends. Well done, Smitty. I might attack my finish line in a similar manner if I get the chance. I like that is has the pass-thru track. Now if only Mattel would sell this type of thing by itself!

Nice! Where can I buy me one of these?

From Ebay or Amazon for around 20 bux. It's the one I just used for my track. I'm at work so I cant see JDC's pictures. (blocked by firewall)

On mine I drilled out the rivits and used my dremel to modify the lower section so I could slide the track through it.

to buy one, check out the indy 500 set... looks taller with larger channels the cars pass through... now working on mounting one to a sizzlers dual lap counter as a starting point...already has in and out connectors for orange track

.
I called mattel about a steel prototype i made of an adaptor to let you make the grey (4) section (4) lane collapsable raceway into a (6) section set... they replied that their ideas are from the inside of mattel's walls... [ lawsuits ]
so because they didn't think of this they will not be selling it... bummer...

Did you get a Mattel magnet with the rejection letter? Coby sent a car idea and he got the same standard response as you Smitty and also got that Mattel magnet.

Should build a couple of these and then you can have a few race points in the race. Put it in the middle of the track and see if the same car that clicked through as winner at that point goes on to win it at the end. Granted it would slow the cars down a little.

Smitty, do you (or does anybody) have pics of that finish line before modifying it?
I found a roll-up track on eBay, I'd just like to see what it looks like before buying.

mine was a toys r us thing.... i think the indy 500 roll up set is a better fit... ordered one friday.... looks taller because the total unit is rectangular... the toys r us rig tapers down towards the finishline unit and has tapered uprights.... it tapers opposite of what goes with the track.... you will have to change the lane #s... winning checkerboard flags are stuck on the wrong side for what we do... check the indy 500 rig...

Only pic I have on my site with it. You might want more of a closer look?

thanks K., the picture is fine, see how much taller his (blue) indy 500 roll up set is... it appears to have 1/4" or so wide uprights... the toys r us rig's uprights are 1/16".... also notice the indy 500's opening doesn't narrow near the top... bingo !

i just got a" dual lapcounter" and an "indy 500 roll up set" from me-pay...the indy rig unit is a trailer truck, the finishline being the back of the truck's box... it does not have 1/4" square uprights [they're angle ironish] but it's 3" tall x 4" wide x 3/4" deep... with 1 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall openings...base is 3/8" thick [tall]...it's 3 1/4" from the inside of the uprights,
3 1/16" dual lane "gap" in the lapcounter... perfect
shouldn't involve as much work as the toys r us job...
IF ANY INTEREST i'll take how to pix, i'm ok with a hacksaw, but photogin' is not my bag....

Sounds like you have the one I got "in the pic". I took a demal tool to remove some of the plastic so I could just slide the yellow track though it.
