TLD, any word on how the "Hot Ones" version did against the techno bits version of the Shadow Jet? I bought a Hot Ones version a while back and have been waiting to see how it would do in a race. So, I'm very interested to see how it did against an original.

My older 'Techno Bits SJ' is more consistently than other Mattel factories.

i think the teck-no bits have 5 spokes, and the hot ones have basic wheels...i prefer the look but have never won much with b.w.'s

Actually, the BWs on my Hot Ones SJ spin okay...I think the axles weren't properly secured/aligned on the chassis before the car was riveted together. Unfortunately, I have a few other new 'Hot Ones' castings that were similarly assembled.

Very interesting. I'm going to check the base of my fastest cars to see where they were built. GspeedR might be onto something.
It does seem as though quality control, over-all, isn't what it used to be with most Hot Wheels today.

I just picked up the "Hot Ones" Shadow Jet a couple days ago. I figured I would have a grudge match at some point during the Featherweight Challenge this weekend.

I opened up the Hot Ones Shadow Jet and found the front axle to be very very loose and the rear axle to be very very snug. You can actually adjust the rear axle by sliding it from side to side, center the wheels and it will stay in place. The front wheels on the other hand...

I pulled out the Techno bits Shadow Jet to see how the axles compare and found the front one to be very loose. Actually the front left wheel is all messed up. I mean it seems like it's about ready to come off. Maybe the inside of the wheel is out of round or the axle is bent. It appears to be ruined, but when I roll it. It seems to roll normally. Who knows how long it's been in this condition. I'll race them anyway. If the Hot Ones win, I might have to see if I have another Techno Bits in a box somewhere, or at least replace the wheels on this one and race them again.

you're putting the pressure on T.L.D.,
conflict...the wheels i think look best against the wheels i think roll best... gonna keep my wager in my wallet on this one!

I got a chance to race the Shadow Jets. I ran them several times. The Techno Bits version with the bent wheel and all beat the "Hot Ones" version every single time, and at the very least by a couple car lengths each time. Those darn Hot One cost $2.88 at Wal Mart. What a rip off.

They look great, but that's about it. Probably why I haven't taken many out of the package. Display value only.

No new Hot Ones I've opened have been worth a darn on the track. But they are all metal cars and ripe for some wheel/axles swaps!
