Texas Diecast Racing's National Short Track Challenge!!!

Variation-Jason Monday, 5/2/2011

Ok Folks, here's my biggest news of the year!

With help from Diecastspace.com, The Kustomz Magazine Race Report and Redlinederby.com I have been able to organize a national race series.

We're going short track racing!!!

For obvious reasons, we can't all have 50' tracks available to us at all times. Many of us have never even seen a 50 footer in person. So, this is where the short track format comes into play. I want to make this opportunity available to everyone, everywhere.

The track is a 1:64 scale 1/8 mile drag strip. This works out to a 10' 3-3/4" race distance. It's an extremely reasonable length for any home track.

The cars will be stock 1:64 scale and cannot be altered in any way. Entries are open to all manufactures.

I will be organizing sanctioned events across the country on spec built tracks. The track specs are very easy and will be available by email ( jason@texasdiecastracing.com ). Track components such as starting gates and electronic finish lines will be available for sale as well as completely finished tracks.

Local and Club sanctioned races will begin on June 4th. The first Regional race will be on Saturday, June 18th at the Nashville Collectors Experience.

The next Regional finals will be held in Grove City, Ohio and Dallas, Texas (dates TBD)

For local and club races, cars must be run on a spec approved track. These tracks do not require a timed finish line at this time, but they are suggested. Cars must be run in each of the two lanes. If the track is timed, the average time of the two lanes will be the overall reported time. If the track is not timed, cars must be run in a double elimination fashion. Top two finishers will qualify for the regional quarter final of your choice.

The National Short Track Final will be held in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada at the 2012 Diecastspace.com Super Convention! The winner will receive a custom trophy and some DCS swagger!

Sanctioned race results will need to be reported within one week of the race event. Other required information will be number of cars entered, location of event, pics of winning cars & current track set-up and full name of winners (first name and last initial for minors). Cars can only qualify for Regional Quarter Finals once per season.

Cars will have to be run in a Regional Quarter Final to qualify for the National Final.
(For this year only, there will be a Regional Quarter Final in Vegas the day before the National Final.)

Anyone can run a sanctioned event. To sanction an event, you must provide your personal information, full track specs with pictures, track location and proposed race dates. You must also state if the race is open to the public and if mail in cars will be accepted.

Clubs events will require the same information.

Clubs will be eligible to host Regional Quarter Finals. Just send in your club information and let me know why your club is a good candidate for a regional final.

All race results, upcoming races and sanctioned track locations will be listed on Texasdiecastracing.com and Diecastspace.com

People who enter a mail in car will be responsible for the return shipping expense.

Nice, I'm not sure if I have any good short track racers, but I can test them all out. I hope somebody in SoCal sets one up, I'd like to participate. I would do it myself, but I don't have the time, money, or resources to throw this together.

If you are planning to sanction a race and will accept mail-ins, please post a reply here

Guess I'll need to find a location for this circus And Grove City is pretty much Columbus, Ohio to throw out a name people might actually know.

Bryan, I'll bring the prototype track down on Saturday. I don't think my finish lines are going to show up until Friday, so they will definitely not be ready. I'll bring a couple of print-outs to leave with you.

I hope the pics work... they were a bitch to figure out..... then I just exported a 2D file, lol

It's a simple design. I wanted to make it as easy as possible to build.

Brian, I'll change the ad to say Columbus. I just didn't spend the time to use a map before I wrote it, lol. I'll talk to you more about the short track deal in Nashville.

As for a track in SoCal... I'm working on that. But, until then, the beginning races will be mail in races. Once we get an established network of tracks the mail ins will be mostly phased out. If there is not a track within a reasonable distance, you will be welcome to mail cars in at any time.

Those plans look awesome. With a 11-foot track like that, even just hinging some boards together can get you the same dimensions, angles, etc. That's all I have. That doesn't mean my doesn't look boring (which it does) but if people can't go to all the trouble of a nicer build like that, there are alternatives.

Well, if you're going to be running some regional finals, you'll need an exact duplicate. Just make sure you have some room in your truck when you leave Nashville.

I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, yet sturdy enough to last a few years.
